I love reading. Everything and, just about anything, I can put my hands on. I was guided towards writing, so I started with book reviews, and am now feeling ready to showcase some of my stories. I would appreciate any constructive feedback.

Book Review: The Murder of Me. Wickham by Claudia Gray
I was given a free e-copy of this novel by NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion. The happily married Mr. Knightley and Emma are throwing a house party, bringing together distant relatives and new acquaintances—characters beloved by Jane Austen fans. Definitely not invited is Mr. Wickham, whose latest financial scheme has netted him an even broader array of enemies. As tempers flare and secrets are revealed, it’s clear that everyone would be happier if Mr. Wickham got his comeuppance. Yet they’re all shocked when Wickham turns up murdered—except, of course, for the killer hidden in their midst.

Book Review: A Dish to Die For by Lucy Burdette
I was given a free e-copy of this novel by NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion. Peace and quiet are hard to find in bustling Key West, but Hayley Snow, food critic for Key Zest magazine, is taking the afternoon off for a tranquil lunch with a friend outside of town. When she comes home, she discovers her husband Nathan’s dog, Ziggy, has disappeared. She follows his barking, to find him furiously digging at a shallow grave with a man’s body in it. Davis Jager, a local birdwatcher, identifies him as GG Garcia, a rabble-rousing Key West local and developer. Garcia was famous for over-development on the fragile Keys, womanizing, and refusing to follow city rules—so it’s no wonder he had a few enemies.

Movie Review: Death on the Nile
If you are a book reader like me, then the idea of a movie adaptation is a double-edged sword. On one hand, we are excited because the story was great and a favorite. On the other, however, history shows that not all adaptations are good, or even decent.

Letter to My Nephews
Dear Nephews, I hope you know how awe inspiring you both are. Let me tell you why. C: You have endured so much in such a small amount of time. Despite what your mother, my sister, may say I think you have handled it with better grace than most adults ever have. At the tender age of 5, we followed along as you were diagnosed with a slow growing brain tumor. I remember the phone call, “We are not screaming, we are not crying. It is what it is, and we are waiting.” That became our mantra for the past 6 years.

Book Review: Murder Faux Paws by T.C. LoTempio
I was given a free e-copy of this novel by NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion. When a local PI’s untimely death is ruled a suicide by the police, budding sleuth Nora Charles has no intention of letting sleeping dogs lie—or sleeping cats, for that matter. Certain it was a case of foul play, Nora rouses her trusty sidekick Nick and launches an investigation of her own. Then a second PI is murdered, and Nora knows the two men were on to something—and that she’s on to something too.

New Year's Calm Resolutions
Any and all resolutions I have made this year are for my mental and physical health. For a few years now, my mother and nephew have been in and out of the hospital. One for three different cancers that are all potentially hereditary, and the other for a random genetic combination. My mother has become overly concerned, to the point of a ‘helicopter mom’, when it comes to her children and grandchildren’s health. When I had my bio-metric exam, it showed that I was in danger of becoming pre-diabetic. In roughly 6 months, I managed to drop forty-five pounds, but I still very much have a ways to go.
