4 Steps to Planning an (almost) Flawless Cross-Country Trip
This graph is the result of a lot of planning and discussion. When we started planning, the goal was simple enough - travel from Idaho to Maine and home again. That didn't sound too tough, but then the planning began. At first I felt overwhelmed. Where would we stay? What tools would provide efficient directions? How would we know what to see?

3 RV Park Recommendation in Maine
Randy and I stayed a week in Maine during our travels. Since his brother planned fly to Bar Harbor to join us for a few days, we chose a stay at a RV Park, Pumpkin Patch RV Resort, close to the airport. In the evening, we picked up Uncle Ron at the airport in Bar Harbor, a 14 minute drive. We stopped by Chase's restaurant to eat dinner and ended the evening in front of a campfire. If you ever make it to Herman main stop by Chase's Family Restaurant. We ate breakfast there and when Ron got off the plane hungry returned for dinner. Scroll down for review.

Providence, Rhode Island - Big Reasons to Visit the Smallest State
Rhode Island is approximately 35 miles by 49 miles and the total area is 3,144; however, we spent four days appreciating what it offered. One of the highlights of visiting the capital of a state is to explore the capital. We visited several during our trek across the U.S. This is a must to understand the history, priorities, art, and politics of a state.

Salem and Boston Massachusetts
We planned two days in Massachusetts, not enough but for this trip we got a taste of the area. We spent one day in Salem and one in Boston. Definitely destinations we will need to return to in the future. Let me give you a bite from our experiences to savor and possibly tempt you to journey to this beautiful area.

Asking Questions Before Reserving an RV Space Saves Headaches
Is there availability? Internet searches make finding an RV space easier than ever. Over the last couple years interest in traveling has increased so accommodations can be harder to find. However, through all our travels we have never been unable to find a place to stay the night. Arrangements are easier if I plan a head but sometimes a change in plans forces us to explore immediate options.

The Attraction to the Midwest is the Simplicity
Nebraska is flat. Ohio is is depressing. Illinois doesn’t have good food - unless you are in Chicago. Vermont is too liberal. After spending several day traveling through these states, my response is to not believe the rumors. In fact, my insights are that none of them are barren, flat, boring, depressing or lacking in good food, and I don’t care about their political views.

What to Do When You Wake Up to a River Running Through Your Kitchen
My first response at 6:30 in the morning when I heard the toilet had leaked water on the floor was to roll over and go back to sleep. Randy's got this. Then when he didn't return to to bed, I became more inquisitive, "I thought you said the toilet leaked a little." When I finally moved the blankets and let my feet touch the cold laminate, I realize what he called a leak I would label a flood. Several towels later, I took the dogs out to pee thinking I could at least help by not allowing them to add to the liquid.

We Slept at a Ski Resort, an ATV Rental Parking Lot, a Boat Yard, and a Farm
Oak Mountain Ski Resort As we drove up to Oak Mountain Ski Resort in Speculator, NY, we didn't know what to expect. In late September what would be open? Where would we park? There is always a little trepidation when we first arrive at a Harvest Host destination. But as yet, we have never been disappointed. Oak Mountain provided an excellent experience.

Enjoy the Journey on the way to the destination
We left Bar Harbor on our journey to Portland, Maine with the goal to eat fresh lobster by the end of the day. To be honest that was always the plan from the the moment we pulled out of our driveway in Idaho, but I could virtually taste the delicacy now that we were so close. No matter how tempting our reward at the end of the road, we took time to explore Maine.

What to Look for in the Perfect Travel Partner
Traveling in a small space for an extended period of time with another person can be difficult. Without moving, it is possible to step on the other's toes. A misstep might be accidental with a positive intent but yet create an uncomfortable situation. For instance, when my husband was outside the motorhome hooking up the sewer, I decided to "help" by extending the slide. He would have been appreciative if the slide had not bumped him in the head.

Travel Provides a Chance to Appreciate and Reflect
Most of the time I hate driving. There usually is stress associated with most trips because I have to arrive someplace that requires my attention, by a set time established by somebody else, to accomplish a necessary and unpleasant task. But since we've retired, driving takes us to new places and exciting adventures. I am beginning to enjoy the drive.
