THE NBA ISN'T A GUARD DRIVEN LEAGUE
My mother’s favorite solution on those hot summer days was to get an ice cream cone. Overcome with the excitement of escaping the heat and humidity into the comforting chill of the air-conditioned room. Same goes for the ice cream trucks that gave you a burst of cold air while you waited in their shadow. Even today, there’s magic in the air while watching someone prepare an ice cream cone for you. The anticipation is rewarded from the moment it touched your hands. You missed this… and you can’t believe you lasted this long without it.

The Birds in our Family Tree
I was born in the same room my mother was born in, and her father, and every other Swan in existence, all born on a farm in Alabama. They were all buried here, too. At least, that’s what my grandfather used to tell me. I marveled at his round face, free of wrinkles, as he pinched my chubby cheeks. Swear he never aged a day in my life. He told us they used to tease him in school when they said black doesn’t crack, but he was the only one left to laugh at it now. He had plenty of jokes. The only thing he didn’t find too funny was breaking tradition.

It was my last summer home. I had spent the last 7 months in Philadelphia making up credits after switching majors. Only 2 weeks left of life as it used to be. Hanging out with my brothers. Being the baby of the family. After graduation, I’d start my forever career... or some silly shit like that. What they used to sell to college kids. What we used to believe.

Why did Instagram started sending me mental health ads?
We’ve all had that moment. Having a conversation around our phones and suddenly there’s an ad for the thing we were just talking about. We’re told that there’s a logical explanation for it. Skimming through our phones, there were ads for Snickers, and that’s why we were talking about Snickers. You just realized it today. Don’t be paranoid!

I told myself I wasn't taking new clients...
You are a gift to the world... but not everyone will appreciate it. Not because they don’t recognize its value. People must be compelled to act. Even when you are offering them a chance at a better quality of life. Deprioritizing ourselves to keep the machine going. Losing sight of what keeps us going.

Why Did My ACL Tear?
My last post focused on what it means to tear your ACL and what to expect with the recovery process. In part two of this series, we’ll examine why your ACL tore. Now, I know you remember how you tore your ACL. Even if you had a partial tear, and you could still function, you know what you were doing when it happened. You felt it pop, felt it twist, and maybe even hit the ground.
