An analysis of Mieruko-Chan
‘Mieruko-Chan’ is originally a manga, created by Izumi Tomoki. It was adapted into an anime by Studio Passione in 2021. The show is about Miko Yotsuya, a girl who can see spirits who haven’t yet passed over. This anime is described as being a horror comedy and that is accurate. The way the ghosts are animated is horrifying. The first ghost that is introduced is an overweight man, who seems to have had his stomach cut open, which exposes his rib cage, organs, and two severed heads. I am someone who loves horror, but it takes a lot to scare me. I can honestly say, the animation excelled at creeping me out.

Bobbie's birthday
My lovely daughter turned two. How time flies. My mum always remembered to buy a Christmas gift for our cats. one year it was a pouch of catnip nestled between the tree’s branches. I have carried on this tradition with my own fur baby. Except, I go a step further and wrap her gift, before putting it under the tree. Here is a video of her last Christmas, opening her first wrapped gift.

‘Kiss him, not me’ and how it relates to shipping
I discovered the anime, ‘Kiss him, not me’, directed by Hiroshi Ishiodori, when I was looking for something to fill the void that was created after I finished another anime. The title was certainly intriguing and I’m going to be honest and say that is why I clicked on it. The story focuses on Kae Serinuma and her preference for boy love manga and her obsession with shipping fictional boy characters with each other. This morphs into her shipping her male class members together. She ends up getting pursued for a romantic relationship by four of her male schoolmates, Mutsumi, Shinomiya, Nanashima, and Igarashi. The last two boys, Kae ships with each other. Later, a female schoolmate is introduced as a suitor, which is Nishina. Now that the premise of the show is established, I’m going to focus on the points that resonated with me as being somewhat part of the fandom world, which were the established ships in the anime, shipping, and when shipping becomes problematic.

Some things are constant
There is a pear tree at the back of my mum's property. I used to play under it as a young child. When it was summer, I would stay out there for hours. Little hands digging into the soft dirt, feeling it getting under my nails. I would find worms tangled up in the earth and would bring them to my mum to show her my new friend. I would be out there from early in the day with the sun filtering through the leaves and warming my back. Time blurred away and the sun would dip below the horizon, vibrant oranges and reds streaking the darkening sky. The outside light would come on and my mum would step out onto the wrap-around porch to call me back in for dinner.

Wanting to fly only to fall
I watch as a couple glides around the edges of the frozen pond, holding hands to keep each other steady. They look at each other with trust and love. They flitter to the centre of the pond and the man spins his lover around. She must feel like she is flying. Then the ice cracks and she is falling.

Lazy Or Just A Struggling Human Being?
After my partner and I got kicked out and I had used up almost all my savings to buy a car, we were broke. I had $500 to my name. We had been dancing around the idea of going on welfare for a while since we hadn’t had jobs for about a year. But we hesitated because we lived at his parents' house and they paid for food and the essentials. Then we were thrown out and all that was ripped away.

Owning Pet Rats
I decided to become a rat mum on a whim. I realized later that this was not a mistake per se, but I probably would have benefitted from doing my research before making the two-year commitment my boys would ensure. Just because they are a little pet, rats are not by any means low maintenance. I found this out the hard way.

Grieving isn't linear
I woke up when I felt something jump off the bed. I sat up with a jolt thinking it was my cattle dog x, Bobbie, wanting to be let out as she has done every morning since staying at my partner’s parents' house for the last few weeks. But when I looked down, Bobbie was still asleep. So, what had jumped off my bed? The dream I had been having before I had been awoken was fading from my mind slowly, so I could recall what it was about.
