Not With the Times, or Ever Being Worth Our Time
I really didn’t know much about Roseanne, either with the original show or the recent revival from this past year. I mean, I was curious. I had seen some episodes when I was younger, but was too confused to make much sense of it or how much time had lapsed. Nowadays, though, my eyes and ears are still wide open along with many others to everything relating to the show, what with the controversy from this past summer surrounding the titular star and co-creator’s racist tweet and the official cancellation of the revived show on ABC that the corporation made as a response.

Overman of Pain
In considering the existentialist philosopher, Friedreich Nietszche’s perspective on moving beyond good and evil, or moralities and judgement, to allow for the development of the “Overman,” we should first acknowledge what leads to such an awakening. Primarily, as a contemporary society, we have to realize that “God is dead,” and that we have killed him and made him obsolete as a result of our own inevitable progress in science with evolution theory, the end of the aristocracy, as well as with developments in our own thoughts, behavior, and philosophy. Additionally we also need to recognize our values and perceptions of concepts of morality and judgment and whether or not they’re our own and place ourselves in a mindset of self-valuation. We have to recognize all of these values that are imposed on us from the dual moralities that are the foundation of our social consciousness, Master and Slave Morality.

What Do We Do When the Music Stops?
Keep things light. Don’t dance faster than the music. How could things get bad? How could we ever allow ourselves to get to that point? There may be a select few fleeting moments in which we feel such a strong connection and resonance with a work of art and what is happening with current events, or just our everyday lives. Personally, as an actor, I naturally live for those moments—that sort of rush of electricity of relevancy with what’s going on in the world.
