Hope and Chocolate Cake
Wedding Day. At last. The farmhouse was abuzz with activity! Aunt Maddie was yelling orders here, there, and everywhere. The room was bustling as bridesmaids fussed over each other and all kinds of intricate details. Everything felt zoned out, a little hazy…. Izzy sat in front of her mirror and listened to her friends’ chatter, but she could understand nothing.

She Tried To Kill Us.
I stood at the top of Mount Augus, and gazed intently into space. A supply shuttle should be in sight real soon. Although monitored from the control centre, the details weren't shared for this reason - the event always gave us a thrill to see a speck emerge and grow, and then the delicious excitement of identifying the incoming shuttle. We put friendly wagers on these things: it kept us out of deeper mischief.

The Shattered Mirror

From Scraps to Happiness
Well. I sat with bits and pieces of all sorts of crafty off-cuts before me on the table. I fingered tiny beads and shells, ran my thumb over the smooth worn surface of a forest stream pebble, fiddled with the stem of a bark-less twig. Little left-overs from larger projects, each of these I loved, each one made me smile. Little glass bottles - nearly empty - filled a basket. Shiny, colourful variety all playing together here - surely, I asked, there must be something I can do with these?

A Love Letter to our Mother
She is so exhausted - has been trying SO HARD to keep going, keep supplying, hoping we will wake up and step up for Her. I was buying potatoes when I began to cry. Just suddenly…. tears began to leak. I held this fruit of Hers in my hand and I felt Her heart - She has given all that She can, shown us where She needs us to wake up and grow up, and we have ignored Her.

Learning to Live Again
Amy took a moment, and allowed herself the luxury of a sob in the shower. Her body shook, writhing with pain. She sat on the wet tiles, warm water cascading over her head. Her arms hugged her knees. She rocked - back and forth, back and forth - until a sense of calm permeated the indescribable anguish that coursed through her soul.

Passport to Life
I sit in a city square, viewing a tin plate of beans and pap with great anticipation. My worldly possessions have been stolen - twice - since my travels began. My dad sent me a bit of money to get me home, but I sit here wondering if that is what I really want to do…
