Candyman (2021) Review
I saw this movie two weeks ago and I've barely stopped thinking about it since so I thought I should put my thoughts down. I was incredibly excited about this movie, and I was worried that as this is its fourth scheduled release date it would end up going straight to home release and I wouldn't get the Candyman cinema experience I craved. I was too young when the original came out, although I don't think two year old me would have appreciated it anyway, so this was my first chance. It wasn't until a few days before I was booked to see it that I began to worry I was in fact too excited and the film wouldn't hit my high expectations.

Championing The Wind on Fire Trilogy
I wasn't sure about entering this challenge at first as I wouldn't say fantasy is my main genre and I assumed there would be many stories about the more mainstream fantasy series I like such as Harry Potter and The Hunger Games. I went to check my bookcase and that's when The Wind On Fire trilogy jumped out at me. The nostalgia hit me like a big yellow school bus friends. I was a big Point Horror and Goosebumps fan as a kid but this is the first connected book series I remember being so into that I was hanging out for the next before it was even published. Remember the hype on Harry Potter launch day, when bookshops used to open at midnight & then lots of people had finished reading by the following morning? That was me with The Wind on Fire trilogy. I'm not good at getting rid of books anyway but I think that's why these still have a place on my bookcase.

Red Light, Green Light
I come from a shitty little town with not much to do. The best thing about it is the 'you are now leaving' sign. Unemployment and drinking problems are rife. I'm telling you this so you can appreciate that me and my friends were typical dumb teenagers who were also bored and that's why we started playing the game. I'm sure you've heard of it, it's called red light, green light. It has a few different names depending on where you are in the world but it's played the same way, one of you has your back to the others while they try to sneak up and touch you to take your place but if you turn around everyone has to stop and stand perfectly still. If anyone moves while you're looking they're out. It's the sort of silly game that most people leave behind when they're about ten.

The Strangest Day In The Life Of Marigold Bradshaw
Up until the Summer she turned twelve, Marigold Bradshaw was a bright happy child. She would wrinkle her nose when her mother would gently tuck a marigold behind her ear and introduce her to everyone as "my favourite little flower", but really she loved watching how her mother's face lit up and the coos of attention from others. She had a big carefree laugh that was easily won and a large group of friends. She took school seriously and her favourite subject was art; in bad weather she'd spend hours painting in their conservatory with her tongue poking out in concentration, only stopping when the light finally drained from the day. In better weather she'd be outside with her friends as much as possible. This was what she headed out to do on the strangest day of her life.

Pelican necks and other creepy animal facts
When I saw this challenge and this new community I knew I wanted to join in and also keep it in my wheelhouse. Therefore, I'm going to lay out some lesser-known animal facts but only creepy ones. I have four for you today but I'll be back when I find more. Also, there will be a photo of a tarantula later in this story, you have been warned!

Follow The Instructions To The Letter
I was languishing in the bath that day with a face mask on when the doorbell screamed obnoxiously through the house. I settled back down and decided to ignore it as I wasn't expected anyone but then it screamed again, and again, and again.

Happiest Season (2020) Review
As the 12 days of Christmas draw to a close, I thought I'd review a Christmas film while there's still time. As a lesbian who loves terrible cheesy Christmas films I feel like I was the exact target audience for Happiest Season so I had high hopes. See those smiling faces above? That's how I expected and wanted it to make me feel. In reality, my reaction was more like this:

100 Horror Movies in October: Update Two
Here's my second update on my crazy attempt to watch 100 horror films in spooky month. I forgot to tell you last time that my previous best was 56 and that you should feel sorry for my Mum as she's being forced to watch most of them with me!

100 Horror Movies in October: Update One
We're almost halfway through spooky month (although let's be honest it's 2020 so it's spooky year *laughs then cries*). I have seen many posts about the '31 days of horror' challenge which is fun but a few years ago I found what was basically that challenge on steroids: watch 100 horror movies in October. I've tried and failed several times before but now I know there's a horror community here on Vocal I thought I would document my failings for this year, and review the best and worst.
