A Readers Dream
Alyssa pulled the car up to the terminal pick up area. She spotted her dad on a double take, this was not the man she knew. His once dark hair had turned to gray, his weight much less then what she recalled. He looked as if he had been ill. She waved from the driver window, his searching eyes spotted her and he came her way. Alyssa braced herself, she didn’t know what to say. She got out and walked to the curb, her eyes downcast. She felt him approaching and looked up, no words were needed. He pulled her into his arms and they both began to sob.

A Readers Dream: Bearer of Bad News
Alyssa buried her head in Gene’s chest and let the hot tears flow down her face. She had to call her dad, to let him know. She wasn’t looking forward to the conversation. Alyssa wasn’t sure how much time passed before she was able to dry her tears. She washed her face before picking up the phone. It had been a while since she had spoken to her father, her birthday to be exact.

The Home Project
Nobody can hear you scream in the vacuum of space, or so they say. I know the truth, and my eager grandchildren sitting in front of me were about to know as well. They had heard hints, suggestions of the story, but now they wanted to hear it from me. The five of them sat at my feet. My rocker creaked as I fell into a natural rhythm trying to calm myself. They were still so young. Would they every truly understand what happened to their white-haired frail grandma? Issac at 12, was already bigger than me, his younger brother Robert at 10, wasn’t far behind. The three girls, Susie 13, Ally 11, and Cassy 9, their dark blonde hair and brown eyes made them duplicates of each other even with three different mothers.

A Readers Dream: The Shopping Trip
Alyssa wasn’t sure how long she had spent in the bathtub. She got out to find her toes were as wrinkly as her fingers. It was worth it, she felt better than she had all week. She towel dried and was surprised when her hair didn’t frizz up like normal, it stayed straight and smooth, just the way he fixed it. Alyssa wrapped her towel around her and opened the door. The first sight that greeted her was Gene laying on the bed staring at her, Alyssa jumped nearly losing her towel, she had forgotten he was there. She looked at him, then her dresser, she may have spent the night in his arms but she wasn’t ready to let him see her naked.

Hanging up the Headset Top Story - August 2022
It’s been almost a year since I worked my last shift in dispatch. There are nights when I am still woken up in terror and think I have to go to work, or have nightmares about being called in. This year on the 4th of July was the first time in 10 years that I was truly able to enjoy the long holiday weekend. Yet somehow, I managed to have the most awful dream. Dispatch was short staffed so I went in on the holiday then they kept me for an extra day and I missed work at my new job. I woke up with my heart racing. I can tell you I didn’t have nightmares like that when I was working, but I didn’t get as much sleep either.

Alyssa opened her eyes, unaware of how much time had passed and found herself sitting on the side of the road in an unknown neighborhood. She stood, still feeling slightly dizzy and faltered when she attempted to walk. She looked around hoping to catch a glimpse of her mother’s car, or something that she recognized. Nothing, at this hour on the weekend everyone seemed to be tucked safely in their own homes or out on the town.

Jessie breathed hard, she felt cramped, her head was pounding. She opened her eyes and it was dark except for a small crack of light. She was in a box, a trunk of some sort as she felt around. The last thing she remembered was following Dr. Lance. He must have caught on. She knew he was a dangerous man, but it was her job. The Consortium hired her to find out what Dr. Lance was up to, and this is where she ended up.

5 Things Every Mom Should Tell Their Daughter
My 13 year old daughter told me that she compared herself to her cousins. She has a cousin only eight months younger than her. They are close in age but can’t be any more different. She told me she felt inadequate when she saw her cousins life. As a mom the most important thing for me was to reassure my daughter that she didn’t need to compare herself to anyone else.

A Readers Dream
Alyssa woke up groggy, she stared at the clock feeling like she had not slept at all, but the clock said differently. It was already ten in the morning, she had to be at her mom’s at four that afternoon. It gave her plenty of time to figure things out. She slipped into the shower and let the warm water wash over her body. She was tired of her life, she was almost 30 and she couldn’t seem to get anywhere. All the men in her life had been failures, now was her chance to turn it around.
