With the growing spiritual movement, its never been easier to find apps for daily mindfulness, horoscopes, or tarot reads—but which ones are worth it? While I personally enjoy a daily tarot card pull and horoscope, there are some apps that give you a deep dive into your daily transits, cards, and even tell you if it’s a good day to get a haircut! At the risk of sounding like a super old, super lame person: Social Media is the worst thing that has happened to us There, its on the table. And you know what? You know it too. Every time you scroll through the same three apps and see the same type of “beautiful” body crammed down your throat. Every time you open an app and there is a highly curated, highly unattainable level of perfection being reached by someone who will make more money than you will ever see, trying to sell you their 13 step skincare routine to make them richer and you feel worse about yourself.

Magic: the Gathering (of Everyone But Women)
It is 4:30 on a Sunday afternoon, and I am watching two men screaming at each other over a card game. This is a local game store, and the individuals in question are neither professionals, nor are they involved in a high stakes tournament. They are playing in a league that costs $5 a week to get into, and is open to all play levels, and has multiple rules that restrict how powerful decks can be to make the game enjoyable for everyone. It is, in short, almost as casual as a league can get, and these man children are arguing as if their livelihoods, marriages, and their firstborn children’s safety are all on the line. This is not the first time I have seen this kind of interaction play out. It wil not be the last. It is in this moment, while I wrap up my own game and say goodbye to the other players—who have thankfully been able to act like adults—that I realize this is why I never see any other girl players at my local game stores Magic the Gathering events, and ultimately what will drive me out of the space as well.

Bee And Puppycat: Why is Cass So Mean?
Spoiler warnings for those that have not watched/finished the series yet! Bee and Puppycat is a series that is characterized just as much by its mysteries as its cute art style, and after its Netflix release, the mysteries have only grown. Theories have already begun to crop up regarding Bee’s father, the timeline of when Bee became a robot, and who, if anyone we have seen yet on screen, is the space princess connected to Puppycat. While these are the obvious elements to be intrigued about, in a show that spans only about 6 ½ hours the smallest details can be connected to the biggest twists.

Assault On Anime: Brand New Animal
The furry community loves it for obvious reasons, fans of Kill la Kill will adore its over the top and bizarre action, but does Trigger Studios “BNA”—Brand New Animal—actually have anything to say about the larger societal issues it so ham-fistedly inserts into the show? It feels like it, but by the end of the 12 episodes, they are still tripping over the delivery. There are obvious allusions to the American drug epidemic of the 80’s, the AIDS crisis, and in many cases through the show it could be argued there is an overarching trans allegory… but nothing sticks. No stance is taken, the main character Michiru stays almost willfully naïve, and the ending is so abrupt and boring that it seems as if there was something crucial cut out of the episode.

Necessary Gifts
As a society, we have become too enraptured with the idea of constant productivity and efficiency. Even as I wrote this out in a notebook, before I even considered it a rough draft of an article, I was thinking of how much faster it would be to just type it out on my computer, or do a voice-to-text note in my phone. Those would be the more efficient ways, yes, but this efficiency defeats the purpose of the time I have given myself. I think of my writing sessions as necessary gifts; It is time set aside to be present in what I am writing—to enjoy filling up the journal I bought, to enjoy the way the pen flows, to enjoy how my handwriting improves the longer/more frequently I write. It is a time to do something that many people see as frivolous or unnecessary—it is a time to just BE.

Quarantine Boredom Busters
Quarantine has been going on for what seems like eternity now, and while there was plenty to do at the beginning, some of us (hi, greetings from Michigan) will be under state mandated quarantine until May 15th. Binging TV shows, catching up on hobbies and projects, even learning new skills and getting really into deep cleaning and organization are losing their appeal; we are all starting to get antsy and are running out of things to do in the comfort of our own homes. For those that have children, the struggle to keep them occupied is even tougher; you can only find so many different DIY crafts on Pinterest before the well dries up and you run out of socks, popsicle sticks, or glitter glue, and the kids riot. For those that are at the ends of their ropes and have run out of activities, supplies, or sanity and social skills, here are 3 things to keep you busy during quarantine. I hope these activities can help give you respite from the difficult times we are living in, and if you try any of these, share your photos and the link so your friends can try them too!
