A Note:
Well I’ve finally done it folks. I’ve finally went off and started an official site of my own dedicated to the women I’ve penned about here on Vocal. This is actually kind of a scary thought to me, if I must be frank. Why? Well, the internet is a vast machine of barking bloggers, it’s a saturated platform, and it’s very easy to get lost in the sauce. Still the key is time and patience (of which, I have none, but I do have persistence and determination in spades, so there’s that…)

These days, when people think of a "Bombshell," they immediately think of Marilyn Monroe, or the recent Netflix documentary about Hedy Lamarr. However, we're focusing on the blondes. And while Marilyn is equally talented and gorgeous, she had a blonde bombshell predecessor... Her name was Jean Harlow.

The Tudor Witch
Ha! Gotcha with that "Witch" tagline didn't I? Just kidding! There is no Tudor witch (that we know of, at least.) However, the English court of Henry VIII may have felt differently in regards to Anne...She was quite a woman ahead of her time. Managing to seduce a king without becoming his official mistress--and instead became his Queen.

Movie buffs, researchers, Hollywood enthusiasts, "flapper/Gatsby" bloggers and fashionistas may or may not have heard of the "IT" girl Clara Bow. Who, in the 1920s, breathed life into Elinor Glyn's ideology of the "IT" factor, aka a sex appeal. An attraction that apparently drew both sexes to a particular person. A magnetic draw, a sense of presence that only the subject who harbored it was/is blissfully unaware of. Most who do know of her may lay claim that Clara was an unintelligent girl from Brooklyn who stumbled through Hollywood, hopping from one bed to the other. Like most people, I had a string of horrific dates before I met and married the love of my life. From boring, to basic, to narcissistic, pretentious, shady, to borderline gay. After one failed fling or two, I had hit a snag in the dating market. You know the kind—so low and I admit) desperate that you start thinking that maybe you should have forgiven your cheating asshole ex. (Don't judge me, you hardcore feminists out there!) One night, I met a starving musician downtown at a local electronic Noize show who resembled an esthetic I drooled over in high school and never found. I plucked up the courage, thinking I had nothing to lose before sidling up next to him and talking about the band playing in front of us. After childishly brushing hands, we blushed, exchanged numbers and set up a date for that weekend.

How To Plan a Wedding in a Month...
Whether you've been engaged for three years or three seconds, who says you need to spend a fortune on a wedding? Think about, it's ONE day and some people end up putting themselves in debt for YEARS for it. If you want a big wedding, that's fine but that still doesn't mean you need to spend $50,000. All for the show, for (let's face it) your family. AKA your mother or mother-in-law. Why do that when you can take a sweet honeymoon or hey, buy a home? Makes a little more sense now, doesn't it?

Marie Antoinette: Debunking the Myths
Everyone, for the most part, has at least heard the name of the most notorious queen, Marie Antoinette. If not her name, they've at least heard the infamous fable of the phrase: "Let them eat cake." For hardcore historians and fans like myself, it's a hard pill to swallow when your ill-informed teacher makes the mistake of asking the class "Who said let them eat cake?" and accepts the answer: "Marie Antoinette."

Lighting Candles
I decided not to give up. That's quite a trait, you know...waiting, idling in place as the world around you turns and you're sitting (or standing) in place just waiting for the stars to burn. Bringing your wish to life. Semi-stars promising potential, though not negative, are not enough. You need the brightest stars, then the moon, to light your way. Each day is some sort of prison, whether created by yourself or others, or just the foundations of circumstance, who knows. What matters is that it is there, and while it is important not to forget in order that you do not lose the fire or the drive; what is far more important is to shift your focus onto your solution. Making ROCK BOTTOM your new home, only to burn it down later and use the old stones to build a new one. The DREAM, if you will.

Lights in the Dark...
Most people have no clue what they want to do with themselves. In my current state, I would have to agree... well, mostly. The other half knows exactly what to do, while every other piece seems to be scattered everywhere. I'm not sure how it all fits together, but I know they all form the same picture. As a kid, I was an imaginative story teller, which was probably fueled by growing up in the mountains outside of San Diego. I began with little comic books, and after moving to the East Coast smack in the middle of junior high, I drowned my adolescent despair in books. I had always been an outcast, but there seemed to have been room for even the most unpopular individuals where I grew up. The East Coast felt differently; they wanted to remind me that I wasn't welcome. So I spent a lot of time in libraries. The silver lining was that books held the answer to my feverish imagination, awakening what I can only refer to as my purpose to be a writer.
