I want to see if I have a career in writing and put it to the test
Goodwill saved my Prom
Shopping is my therapy. I find shopping to help me with so much in life. Whether it is cardio or recreational, Shopping gives me life. My family is obsessed with shopping at the Goodwill. I did not understand why they loved to go to Goodwill. I decided to go with my mom and aunt to Goodwill to shop for essential things: clothes. I am not going to lie, I did not understand why they were into shopping at a thrift store where people sell used clothes, shoes and other products. However, when I went inside Goodwill, I found a lot of things that were nice. Not only nice, but high end designers.
Double date with my parents
My mother went back to college as soon as I was graduating. She talked about this guy in her class so many times that I felt like I had already met him. Michael this...Michael that...Michael Michael Michael! Ugh! I was surprised that my dad was not annoyed with her. My mom was talking about him so much and mentioned how he was very good looking and my age. I at first thought that she was just trying to cover her tracks and use talking to him and about him as a scapegoat to continue her friendship. I was a little taken aback when she had suggested “Oh hey, you and your friends should hang out with Michael so that he can have more friends”. Umm excuse me?! Cue the meme of Nick Young looking confused. I told her no and I thought that this was going to be the end of it. Boy was I wrong!
Politics: the New "Birth Control"?
There was an episode of Law & Order:SVU where a man and a woman were about to engage in coitus, until one of them mentioned their political affiliation. The woman was a democrat and the guy was a republican. Either way, they immediately stopped and no longer wanted to engage in any carnal activity. This is something that some can look over, but a question I have is this: Is it easy to look over a political affiliation of a partner? While there is an old saying that one should never ask for political views of any, I can understand one wanting to know what their potential partner is affiliated with. It is basically a taboo for some to date someone of a different political affiliation, especially in the past few years. I became curious about this and I have wondered if this can be a problem with finding a partner.
Democrats vs Republicans
*Warning: This article will offend both political parties and for that I have to say... DON’T read if you will be offended. Now, onto the story.
Cooking in Quarantine
Cooking has a huge impact in my family. My grandmother is known for her fried chicken, yams and banana pudding. My mother, who is the “chef in our family”, is known for her Gumbo, ox tails and Better than Sex Cake. My sister is also an amazing cook who makes the best Macaroni and Cheese, fried chicken, Butter Toffee cake and many more things. However, no one knew me as a “cook”. I wanted to learn how to cook and have always been fascinated with cooking. My mother started teaching me how to cook at the age of 10. As I got older cooking wasn’t what I needed to learn but what I wanted to learn. Before Covid and the quarantine, I was just cooking to eat. Now, I cook as a hobby.
As a woman...
I am sorry, I need to vent: Can we talk? If I am being honest, I love being a woman but it is exhausting being a woman. I can only imagine what my ancestors would feel. I do not want to yell “Sexism” or “All men are…”, but at the same time I do not want to sit quietly and just let someone say whatever they want and feel I do not know what I am talking about just because “I am a woman”. Being a woman is tough, but I am tough too. Just exhausted. We deal with so many things: Sexism, beauty standards, health issues. It is like playing a video game; we go through a lot of obstacles to get to our goal. However, I am determined not only to win the levels but to also beat the game. I just need to say what and why I am exhausted.
A trip to the Spa
Your Calm Mind is the Ultimate Weapon against your challenges Bryant McGill Physical health is important, but mental health is the #1 priority to our happiness. That is why it is important that we find ourselves achieving a goal that leads our everyday life into a state of serenity. As I am writing this, I find myself listening to my favorite music that calms me down and takes me to my peaceful place: The Spa. Listening to Spa music is the closest thing for me finding zen and feeding my soul with much needed relaxation. As I write this, my goal is to take you on a journey of bliss so sit back and come with me on the journey of zen. I will explain and hopefully influence you as to why Spa music not only is for you, but for anyone who wants to feel as if they are at the Spa and achieve Ataraxia, or a sense of calm.
When did Race become political?
If the confederate flag is seen as “heritage” and not “hate”, then why is saying “Black Lives Matter” considered hate, not heritage by the same people? If all men are created equal, then why is it that a group of Black Lives Matter protesters can get pepper sprayed in D.C. for walking peacefully, while a group of White Nationalists can literally be escorted out of the Capitol
