One warning I always give any parent who is looking for childcare is that it is crucial not to have unrealistic expectations. Even though you want the very best care for your child, you have to understand that the very best care would be you staying home. Next best would be your child spending the day with grandma or Aunt Suzie who never was able to have kids of her own. If you are going to place your child in any form of childcare, including a nanny in your home, that person is a substitute and will never do things the same way you would.

Two decades ago, a brand new idea came into being through the vision of Jimmy Wales, an American-British Internet entrepreneur and former financial trader. Wales was born in Huntsville, Alabama, where he earned bachelor's and master's degrees in finance from Auburn University and the University of Alabama respectively. In 1996, Wales and two partners founded Bomis, a web portal that featured entertainment and adult content. On January 15, 2001, Wales, along with Larry Sanger and others, launched Wikipedia and now the site is celebrating its 20th year.

July, Corona does have a symptom for the uninfected, and that must be this summery slumber. These days, the sunlight burns moth holes through the curtains, making the 93 million mile trek just to wake me, a mummy wrapped in linens. Dog days were carved into our biological clock at an early age. Usually a favorite of school kids for their hibernation, this semester is loved for its sprinklers, ice pops, and 3 AM crickets picnicking out on the lawn. Overall, it’s somntastic, but the harvest time slug doesn’t seem to fit this summer well, considering at least what it’s been harvesting.

I have always wondered why many of the rich and famous choose to create minimalist style homes for themselves. I mean, they have pretty much all the money to do whatever they want to their homes in terms of decoration and design.

It can be the smallest spark of kindness from one furnace that can lead to an inferno for another. Something so insignificant for someone can change the outlook of another. It is something that is always said but not always acted upon. So simple in speech yet so hard to put into practice.

We’ve all been there. When the clothes are piled high, and the dishes are forming a leaning tower of Pisa. Coffee doesn’t even touch the chaos. This chaos was my life just a few months ago. Each morning, I would wake up with the same ideology. I would hit the gym, hook up to my caffeine IV, and grinned my teeth into a forced smile. For years, I entered the same routine, and it produced the same results. I was running in circles and not even coming close to self-actualization. I was barely making space for self-care. After years of following the same routine, I realized that it was putting me closer to my grave than my goals. If I wanted to survive past 40-something needed to change. So, I threw in the towel and entered the race. Here are three ways that quitting my routine changed my career.

Now, if you don't have a black mother or weren't raised by a black woman, this story may not resonate with you. "We Tell Ourselves Stories In Order to Live"
As we waved goodbye to 2020, we will be very honest: We hoped there would be way more chill in 2021. With news of multiple COVID-19 vaccines being distributed worldwide, we certainly had reason to believe we were turning the page on dark days. And as we waltzed confidently into a new year, we were cruelly reminded that the stroke of midnight on January 1st was not the "magic wand" that a lot of us were hoping that it would be.
