Day #2 - Finding nouns from adjectives. Pat Pattison, Song Writing without Boundaries

I am struggling with metaphors. I enjoy them but struggle with writing them and I am not finding them easy in much the same way I struggle with fiction. This is my way to attempt to get better. I thought of skipping this part but no, not me!

Please remember that when it is a timed writing, you may need to finish the line yourself.

Angry

Do not use angry bees as that is not a metaphor as "metaphors are literally false" and of course, bees can be angry or atleast we can experience them as angry!

The dripping hot pan in the oven, set off the angry screaming smoke detector.

Angry - timed for 90 seconds:

The angry toaster flipped the toast through the air and it landed in a pile on the floor. In much the same way as the angry bear swatting the bee and it landed in a pile of poo. How did the bee get into the poo? The angry bear swatted him.

Boastful

The boastful horse heehawed at the nervous youngster trying to ride. He was clearly saying don't bother me if you don't know what you are doing!

The boastful ape was showing how strong he was, so the man suggested an arm wrestling match. He looked at his pythons and said another time.

Boastful - timed for 90 seconds

In all honesty, the small girl said how she was told she was boastful and that was not good. She then said she was only telling the truth when she said she had no idea how to tell a metaphor but she was better than the cartoon bee at metaphors.

Careful

How careful do you have to be when telling a story about a bee, can the careful bee see you or me?

The careful pot was being watched and knew that was important so as not to boil over. The careful pot doesn't want to boil.

Careful - timed for 90 seconds

The careful bee was not as careful as you or me. He flew too far and was lost in a sea of steaming water, that wasn't a good place for him to be. The careful bee got out of there but not before he was burned and had difficulty flying as high as he needed to see...

Dark

It was a dark swan sitting in the empty potato field, then there were seven others all of a sudden there with the one dark swan.

Who said there is such a thing as a dark swan? It was the dark bee, who couldn't see anymore as clearly as he once could.

Dark - timed for 90 seconds

The dark bee was buzzing around and ran into the dark butterfly that was sitting on the flower that he wished to sit on and eat from. He knew that the dark butterfly was going to stay for too long so he buzzed around the butterfly trying to get him to leave. What a dark bee was he!

Enthusiastic

He gave an enthusiastic welcome, much like the worker bee shows his welcome to the queen.

The bee showed enthusiastic fervor when everyone was working together in a manner similar to the dog digging up a bone.

Enthusiastic - timed for 90 seconds

His enthusiastic humor was such that everyone was surprised to see a bee smile like a bug all snug in a rug. How often is it that it shows that kind of enthusiastic fervor for a bee that is ready to mate with the queen?
