Come ye, and let us walk in the light of the Lord.

For far too many, years and years

We fought through blood, sweat, and tears.

We fought for men we do not know,

We fought for lands, we do not sow.

By Johnny McClung on Unsplash

We're told to war! The cause is just

But all the fighting is built on lust.

"Stand for your brothers across the pond,"

But our name they curse and dispond.

By Hasan Almasi on Unsplash

Calling us warmongers, lovers of death.

When all we do is at your bequest.

You stand with crystal clear minds,

Just like the hippies of '69.

By Stormseeker on Unsplash

But your hands are clean at my great cost.

Your conscience pure, but my soul is lost.

Do not condemn me, my good man

To go and die in the desert land.

By Tom Pumford on Unsplash

I have no love for oil or gold.

But this is what they want, I'm told.

Fight your own wars, queens and kings,

The soldier was made for better things.

Very insightful an well written. It is so wrong how veterans are treated here and abroad. The sacrifices of America's heroes will never be forgotten. I will remember them and respect them even though it becomes unpopular to do so. War is such a horrible tragedy that wreaks havoc on the hearts and souls of mankind. πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΈπŸ™πŸ»πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΈπŸ™πŸ»πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΈπŸ™πŸ»πŸ™πŸ»πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΈπŸ™πŸ»πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΈπŸ™πŸ»πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΈπŸ™πŸ»πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

Wow! Now THAT, will make you stop and think. Great poem! I loved this line: -I have no love for oil or gold. But this is what they want, I'm told.- Material fame is a lost cause.

Emily, you make a valid point with every line. If only enough people would see the truth. (If you have time please read 50 Years to understand how this vet feels.)
