She-Rex
In honor of Mental Health awareness month
“Girls can’t hunt!”
I was considered the runt.
The only egg that cracked fragile
of 12 in my gaggle.
On most days, I’d eat a whole apple-tree.
“How can a T-Rex live off the green!”
They put the lies in fireflies,
and tumble in weeds,
I wanted something to eat!
Something that bleeds. Over yonder the stampede.
Where the mammals ran, and their young screamed.
I don’t want to be like my cold-blooded brothers,
the small-horn tumbled under the others,
as they took the life of its mother.
I realized instead of taking life, I’m the only one who can give it.
Shielding my hatchlings from danger.
What was wrong with me? Wanting to be mean, or did I want to hunt to be seen?
Or what was wrong with them? Wanting to kill all of our friends.
My mama ate apples, and sappy bark, right before she was killed by the massive Dino-sharks.
I made my decision.
Apples are fine with me, and don’t fall far from the tree.

Such a great focus for the poem, it really comes across that she is strong in choosing her own destiny!
Brilliantly done, Natasha! Great concept and so wonderfully executed! “I don’t want to be like my cold-blooded brothers” was a great anchor for the lines that followed
This was so beautiful and soothing in a way, like the dino's decision to eat the apples in the end.
As a vegetarian, I loved this so much! I've had people ridicule me for being a vegetarian and your poem was so empowering!
Yes and the point of the story is she could eat all of them if she wanted to but refusing to do so doesn’t make her less of a dinosaur, she had fangs and it’s part of her nature too
Boys are always wanting to hunt, it is their nature. Yet the circle of life must continue. A little meat is sometimes nec. But, apples are great too. lovely and unique poetry/
Veggiesaurus Regina - love it! Great poem and great take on the prompt
Amazing work!
Aww, this is adorable and the idea of an unselfish, vegetarian T-rex is amazing!😊❣️
this is very well done. particularly moved by the lines "the only egg that cracked fragile" and "the small-horn tumbled under the others" beautiful and evocative.
Love this!
