Now you're gone

I can no longer message you.

Now you're gone

I can no longer speak to you.

Now you're gone

I can no longer laugh with you.

Now you're gone

I can no longer call you.

Now you're gone

I can no longer enjoy our outings together.

Now you're gone

I can no longer surprise you on your birthday.

Now you're gone

I will no longer see your radiant smile.

Now you're gone

I will no longer enjoy our many holidays together.

Now you're gone

I will no longer get to enjoy your company.

Now you're gone

I will no longer hear you sing with your rock choir.

Goodbye, my dear best friend.

I will miss you forever

until we meet again

one day up in the clouds.

...

My best and dearest friend passed away on Saturday 6th April 2024. It was the day before I was due to go on holiday to Orlando, Florida with my husband and our son, his wife, and my two grandsons. It was a terrible time because I didn't want to go away and leave her family and of course, I was suffering the loss of my dearest friend whom I have been good friends with for thirty-seven years. We knew each other from our younger days before we had children and then after we had our families we got closer and enjoyed many holidays together. My husband and I are Godparents to her daughter and son. We were very close like sisters. I miss her so much.

Olivia passed away from breast cancer which she suffered from since August 2019. After having a mastectomy, chemo, and radiotherapy, she never felt normal until she had a breast reconstruction. Of course, that brought bad news because they found the cancer cells had spread to her bones and then to the peritoneum, plus a small tumor had grown on her adrenal glands. Eventually, ascites grew in her stomach and made things worse for her. Not long after the cancer cells spread around her stomach and the fluid in her body got worse. She finally couldn't eat and ended up in hospital at the end of March 2024 but unknown to us all she didn't have long to go.

Cancer is a terrible disease. I wish there were a cure but there isn't.
