Fire Emblem Heroes

A mobile game that either needs to change or just expire.

Fire Emblem Heroes!

Back in 2017, this mobile game launched everywhere in the US, and I was excited. The ability to collect or summon heroes from all the Fire Emblem series, a series I have come to appreciate, was nothing short of awesome! Popular characters such as Marth, Ike, Lyn, Lucina, and Corrin were just the tip of this iceberg in this fun collecting, game playing game. Even within a few months after the games release, they added even more characters, and this trend has continued even till this day!

You would complete storylines, missions and quests that gave you orbs which allowed you to summon a hero from one of four colors, Red, Green, Blue and Gray. If you wanted to do a full summon of five heroes, all you needed was 2o orbs.

Within a year they released a Choose Your Legend event, where you got to vote on a special summoning banner with heroes everyone voted for, and the top 2 female and the top 2 males got to be in this banner. And Year 1 didn't disappoint with Ike and Roy winning the Male category and Lucina and Lyn winning the Female category.

What made this even more fun was Summoning banners, that a favorite hero could be a part of, and they were wielding different weapons then what they would be wielding in their respective game, giving me the opportunity to collect my favorite heroes ( Ike, Lucina, Chrom, Flora to name a few) all without having to wait for their one banner.

The story itself is massive, going to different worlds, taking on brand new villians, and introducing new heroes to fight at your side, this game was off to a fast, and awesome start! Whenever a new storyline dropped, I was there with my best team to quickly beat it and summon more heroes and expand my collection.

But then the issues began to appear, and they weren't pretty. First was the orb supply. As I had stated before, there were ways to collect orbs, but they only gave you one orb per level you beat or a quest you completed, meaning once you did all that, you didn't get any more orbs.... unless you bought some from the store, which can range from a couple dollars to a hundred dollars, I love Fire Emblem, but I'm not spending $100 dollars on orbs just to give me a shot to summon a hero, that I may not get.

Secondly the units themselves. As the years passed, the units got new powers and abilities, which at first was amazing, but now is really frustrating. Some units are straight up unkillable unless you have one specific unit, and if you don't just chalk up a loss on your record ( At this time, I'm looking at you Legend 7 Corrin and Emblem Ike.) This also made units from Year 1-3 almost obsolete, their weapons and skills can't even make a dent in the newer units, even if they have weapon advantage.

Finally, the different modes. In the game there are different modes you can play, and while some modes can be really fun, I find myself either passing on those modes because they don't give me orbs, or just straight up, they are boring.

So in conclusion, this game can be a great unit collection game for Fire Emblem fans out there, but if you are wanting a fun strategy game with no strings attached, I would look elsewhere. Sure, I think you could have great fun with this game, but if you want to stay competitive, be ready to sink some money into this game.

Here is my final thought. Either create new units with older abilities, so not to render those units completely useless, or just stop making units for a while. You have plenty of units in the game, and still plenty to make, but now your newest units are just too strong, and if you are unlucky not to get them, you are going to find yourself in the dust, granted with your favorite units, but not in a competitve sense.
