I have a confession to make. If you laugh at me thunder fire you!

I had a high school boyfriend called David. David was a student at St. Paul's Seminary Nyeri. Truth is, I was confusing a young man who wanted to marry the church when he grew up. Anyway, I loved David and I was not going to allow the seminary to interfere with my marriage. While at school, David would send me the most romantic letters that would send my heart to Samasult. The letters would be sealed in a white envelope baptized in El Sudan Perfume. Children of today will open their mouths to ask me what El Sudan is. Somebody please tell them because the last time I talked to one Gen Z like this, I had to sleep for three days and three nights, just to calm down.

Anyway,

David would also sprinkle perfumed baby powder on the writing pad. You open the letter then BOOM your whole face is white. I would read his letter word for word, for hours. I would even tuck his letters under my pillow and dream about our life together after high school. After we both cleared form 4, I would wait for him to call me, every day at 2 pm, using his mother's mobile phone. I did not have a mobile phone then, those ones were reserved for the children of a top medical doctor and hospital owner from my residence. One time while in church, one of the doctor's children allowed me to touch his big flap phone and I nearly fainted in excitement and shock. I on the other hand used to call David using a community phone. Brethren, look at yourself reading this using your nice expensive smartphone. Again, can somebody please volunteer to explain to these children of yesterday what a community phone is, if I do, somebody will cry.

Years later, the Holy Spirit convinced my father to buy me my first semi-smartphone, with a camera, internet, and Opera Mini browser. I walked around town with that phone for all to see. You see, the enemies of my relationship had succeeded. After a while, David stopped picking up my calls and replying to my messages. The only option I had left was sending love messages to David through the Beat Music show hoping that DJ Kanye would read them. Don't ask me why I didn't use the internet back then. Every time I remember just how much money I spent in cyber cafes to check emails, search for jobs, and the latest news, I just scream waaaaa!

But Opera Mini changed everything.

Can somebody volunteer to explain to these children of yesterday what Opera Mini meant for us in those days? In fact, let me volunteer. Opera Mini is the godfather browser from way back. Opera Mini, for me back then, was a gateway to a whole new world. With my simple feature phone, I could access the internet like someone in a cyber cafe! The first thing I browsed on Opera Mini, from the comfort of my house, was David. I would type all his names on the browser, and click on hundreds of images just to look for my man. I still had hope for this marriage. When I failed to find him on the 'internet', I would play Westlife songs on the internet on repeat while crying a river.

Opera Mini helped me stalk my favorite celebrities including Akon, Ne-Yo, Craig David, and shirtless Usher. I also applied for jobs, networked on apps of those days, and caught up with the latest gossip.

Opera Mini introduced me to the real world, what is your Opera Mini story?
