Hold Your Secrets Close
Drabble Drop : Card
The family, enjoying a celebratory dinner together, hears a knock on the door. Alice rises from her seat, heading down the hall to answer the knock.
A stranger stands before her, waif thin and begging for a bite to eat. Alice, a generous soul lets the stranger in. There’s plenty of food for everyone.
As the meal progresses, William begins to tell a story about his mother, Alice’s previous murder conviction, however before William could say more than a few words, Alice hushes him.
She quietly whispers in his ear, “We don’t lay all our cards upon the table William.”
I was challenged to write a drabble of the word ‘card'.
Wikipedia defines a drabble as follows :
A drabble is a short work of fiction of precisely one hundred words in length. The purpose of the drabble is brevity, testing the author's ability to express interesting and meaningful ideas in a confined space.

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.

I'm a little confused. William is Alice's husband? And she killed his mother?
Very true, we don't just lay our secrets out! I loved your poem Colleen.
