Beyond the Guardrail

Officer Fred Henderson

“Don’t worry son, I’ll get you out.”

I turned to see the freakishly scarred and bloodied face of a Highway State Patrolman whose name tag read, “Fred Henderson.”

I crashed from a blowout and my car burst into flames. I heard emergency vehicles approaching as Officer Henderson pulled me to safety. Then my car exploded.

Two arriving officers ran over to me. Seeing my legs were CLEARLY broken, one officer asked, “How were you able to get out?”

“Officer Fred Henderson pulled me to safety.”

The other officer said, “That’s impossible! Officer Henderson was struck and killed here LAST year.”

Ah, the title makes sense and it fits. Nice little tidbit.
