A Butterfly Knife is a folding pocket knife with two handles that fold down the middle allowing you to open it up. They are primarily used as showmanship items, in magic tricks, and more recently as weapons in martial arts. Butterfly Knife tricks can be practiced with any size or style of butterfly knife - even though some might say that smaller knives are easier to do tricks with. It's all about creativity!

The butterfly knife is an extremely popular tool in the world of entertainment. The knives are used as a type of visual art, often accompanying sleight-of-hand or magic tricks. Here are some cool tricks:

1. Flicking

This first basic knife trick is the simplest to perform and often one of the most visually appealing. The flicking skill incorporates an agile wrist motion to send the knife from your hand into a wall approximately 20 feet away. You can expect to see this trick incorporated into many numbers, including:

Butterfly Knife Gambling - Where you gamble on a flip of a coin, and then in the case you win you get a butterfly knife.

Packaged Butterfly Knife - You begin with 3 knives that are connected together by chains from each end. Then when you do the surprise move (which is quite entertaining) they all flick out, one after another.

2. Throwing

This second basic knife trick requires a strong throwing arm. The knives fly approximately 25 feet from the hand.

3. Sneaking

This is one of the basic butterfly knife tricks that require a strong finger flick to sneak the knives past an unsuspecting subject's defenses, causing them to "pop out" of their pocket, purse, or bag.

4. Flipping Over Yourself

This basic knife trick is one of the most difficult to learn how to do but once you master it, you will be able to flip your body upside down in a split second with no effort at all. It's also very dangerous in that you can break your neck if you are not careful when performing this skill!

5. Rolling

This last basic balisong knife trick is almost like rolling a coin across a table. You flick the knife towards your other wrist and it rolls across the back of your hand before coming to a stop on the other side.

These are simply five of the top basic butterfly knife tricks. These tricks are just the beginning of your butterfly knife experience. Once you have mastered these, there's an infinite world of opportunity for you to explore.

How to Perform Butterfly Knife Tricks Safely?

If you are an aspiring professional or just getting into knife tricking, you don't want to mess up your hands and get hurt. Learning these tricks with proper safety guidelines is essential. Some basic skills that should always be reinforced before practicing butterfly knives include hand and finger placement, blade orientation, speed control, and recovery techniques.

For those who have been using these knives for years without following our rules in relation to safety procedures, it's easy to see the difference in skill level utilizing these guidelines over just going by feeling alone. There are a couple of ways to hold the knife and these include the standard grip and the reverse grip. As a beginner, we suggest using the standard grip. The first thing to learn is how to do the butterfly knife cut.

While practicing this cut, you don't want to go for something too fancy or complex at first because you'll want to be sure that you can handle both ends of your knife at once before trying anything really difficult and more advanced. I would suggest practicing a basic cut without throwing or spinning until you are able to do it successfully about ten times in a row with no mistakes or hesitation. This way you'll have a good idea of what you can do with the knife, which will help when you start trying to do more advanced tricks.

As far as safety procedures for practicing butterfly knives go, we would suggest practicing them in a room without walls. This isn't so much because walls will interfere with your blade, but this will allow you to practice safely while also allowing your mind to focus on the knife itself and not being distracted by any hazards that could cause injury. For instance, if someone was standing right beside you and accidentally reached out for your knife while it was spinning around in your hand you would have no idea what they were reaching for since the wall had blocked your view.
