The Statistic

Will I ever be anything else?

The Statistic

I can’t move today.

Why is this cycle so vicious? Every potentially meaningful moment is promptly thrown away.

Will I be a statistic?

Will I finally discover the outlet that makes my body no longer crave this? My heart no longer miss this?

It is misery, and physically, my body is blistering.

How much further embarrassment do I have to endure to finally realize the answer? It’s as if there’s absolutely no cure.

I wish I were stronger than this.

I’ve cried more than enough tears to fill up those glasses that are usually filled with the stuff that makes the memories no longer exist.

Everything is an idea. There are no hopes, no dreams, no goals…

…just skills that are never applied, talent that’s wasted and yet another tortured soul.

I do not want to be another number.

I saw this and meant to read it when it was made Top Story. Then it got lost in the mix. So glad I did. As DJ said...with writing like this I can't see you ever becoming another statistic...as someone with my own mental health issues and a wife with mental health and mobility issues...this spoke deeply to me. Beautiful and frank writing.

"The Statistic" could refer to a variety of things depending on the context. Here are a few possibilities: Data Analysis: In the context of data analysis or research, "The Statistic" might refer to a specific numerical value or metric derived from a dataset. This could be a mean, median, standard deviation, correlation coefficient, or any other statistical measure used to summarize or analyze data. Key Metric: In business or economics, "The Statistic" might refer to a critical metric or indicator that is widely used to assess the health or performance of a particular sector, market, or economy. For example, in finance, "The Statistic" could refer to something like the unemployment rate, GDP growth rate, inflation rate, or stock market index. Social Commentary: In a broader social or cultural context, "The Statistic" could be used to highlight a particular numerical fact or trend that is significant or noteworthy. This could include statistics related to social issues such as poverty, inequality, education, health, or crime rates. Without additional context, it's difficult to pinpoint the specific meaning of "The Statistic," but it likely refers to a numerical value or metric that is significant within a particular context or domain. https://carapkparking.com/gold-coins/

There are people in the world who see you as more than just a number. But I get it. Overall, what relevancy do we all play in the grand scheme of life, other than becoming another marked grave? Morbid thoughts to have, but at least we contemplate the macabre rather than avoid it.

congratulations on TS. This hits home. I visited my friend again. After a severe injury, her mind and body are slowly shutting down. Her exact words: "I have no ambition, no memory of the injury, and no energy." Then she looked into my eyes and said, "I don't want to die." Your poem reminded me that I need to spend more time with her.

You'd probably be surprised at the number of people in this community that can relate to this. You'll find plenty of sincere support here, too, albeit "remote."

A powerful, relatable reflection on addiction- I believe there's hope for all of us yet, mate 💙

  • Regardless of statistic and number, you are important and unique in your own way. You are an individual that matters. The world will never be the same without you.
