I sure hope this is NOT news.

I will pre-empt everything that comes next by stating that there is no faking it here. You will be found out if you try and there may be no way to crawl back out into ‘good graces’ land.

Ever.

*Add appropriate music for sound effect*

Because your mind…

…truly a turn-on.

And you in the process of developing/engaging/nourishing it, in public, are sure to get noticed by a substantial segment of the population watching you read that book.

I can be the entire cheering section of that female percentage if you have deficits due to demographics/geographical location.

Send me a plane/train/bus/ferry ticket.

I will get you news coverage. Check!

Indie bookstore photo advert deals and promos. Check-check!

Affiliate literary source marketing income. Nuh-uh!

Don’t be silly, I just made that up.

Yes, everybody looks alluring when reading.

No, you may not have noticed as you’re going about your day-to-day business with no encroachment on someone’s personal space uninvited. Slow down and surreptitiously peek every now and then.

Yes, quiet, reserved 'persona me' has spoken enthusiastically to an unknown man on the train about a Booker Prize-winning book that he was reading, and we held genuine stimulating conversation.

Will an eBook read in public have the same effect you ask?

Can said eBook cover/reading content be noticed by passersby from perpendicular trajectories outside of your personal space?

Does your device exude ‘Kindle-like visibility’ from across the café?

I guess you can see where I’m going with this.

Not seen=Not irresistible (at least for the purposes of this intervention variable.)

To read in a public space is to exert an expert level of concentration plus 'hellur' focus. This scenario oozes dedication. Well-flexed synaptic function. Discernible intellect. A demonstrated commitment despite external distractions. This real-time expansion of your mind, and by extension vocabulary, speaks volumes without a word being uttered. It’s a riveting film with subtitles impossible to ignore because one’s gaze is periodically drawn to them on reflex. Such a wide array of applications for them kinda skills in professional and personal arenas don’t ya think?

And then, (there might be an “And then…”) should someone inquire about your hand-held literature?

Your reflections. Philosophies. Critiques. Comments. Questions. All relevant and engaging because whose brain chose that book?

Booyah!

Of course, you’re in this for the knowledge, enjoyment, and relaxation. This just happens to be one of many fringe benefits. Can’t get enough positive side effects in life and this one is delightful.

So, go on and wield that irresistible charm with conscientious responsibility like the respectful being you are. And know that you, studious one, are also radiating some ultra-delicious *ahem* positive side effects.

Me: Keeping it real, subliminally sexy but totally PG. You’re welcome.

You: Perception and insight are gifts that just keep on giving. Lols! Thank you.

“Oooooh!” and “Ahhhhhhhh!” moments…

This was a fun read and echos what my girlfriend said to me the other day! Totally explains why I always have a crowd of women chasing me down the street too 😜

  • This is a wonderful and fun article and highlights the reasons why so few people find me interesting LOL

I'm constantly reading, but I just look like I'm looking at my phone 🤣

Dear Di-Di ~ I've missed you. We both have a 'Play on Words' thing - Your Quote under my 'The Sacred Vows' - "I will always remember this line with a giggle: 'I Love you and God help me if I Ever Don't." I truly don't know how I hatched that? btw; I do legalese 'blah-blah' 'j'

It doesn't seem to have the same effect when you're lying in bed with the wife in the wee hours and your lamp is still on.

This was so great to read. Made me laugh and also think about how much sex appeal I am oozing without even knowing it! Who knew? Excellent read and a well-deserved TS.

I’m laughing… as I choose a hardback title to carry to the park. Hmmm. History book? Might spark a public conflict. Fiction? Author might be under a woke attack for a misguided tweet. Romance? Hmmm 50 Shades might be misinterpreted. I choose my kindle and a life of mystery, therefore obscurity with my cats that don’t really care beyond the bowl being full. Love your story. Congratulations 🥇

Your caveat is so funny 😂😂. I love seeing people reading but I also never want anyone to come talk me while I am hahah ooh unless they are the author, maybe? that would be awesome!

    Love it ❤️

  • Ahhh, this can't be true, I think aloud, grabbing a book as I head out the door...lol So well done. Congrats on the top story

  • As an introvert with social anxiety, I prefer an ebook so no one knows I'm reading, lol. I don't want anyone to strike a conversation with me. I'd die 🤣 Buttttttt, whenever I see a guy reading, gosh he is immediately attractive!

  • Do you mean to say that my autism-defense mechanism of always having a book to read was actually attractive to the opposite gender & I never realized it because, well..., I'm autistic, lol?
