Ranking Characters

Sex and the City

Everyone has their favorite Sex and the City girl. The one you claim as yours. We all also have our favorite boyfriends, and we definitely have our least favorite characters. So we are going to rank the Sex and the City characters, the women obviously and the corresponding boyfriends. I will also be including a small subcategory for where Stanford should fit in.

I think we can all agree that in deadass last is Carrie and Big, together. They get to share the shitty bottom spot for being shitty bottom people. They are both selfish, narcissistic cheaters. They were terrible to and for each other, they were terrible to and for the people they cheated on and they were terrible to and for the other people around them. Carrie, as the main character of the series, gets to take most of the blame here because she was awful to every single one of her friends and for some reason we were still supposed to care about her.

Here we have a giant gap of space to separate everyone else from those two terrible people that we just talked about. I want to make it very clear that those two set the bar in hell and the rest of this list takes place with the bar firmly on earth.

Okay that said next up would be Stanford. Honestly nothing majorly wrong, we just didn’t see as much from him as we did everyone else. But he was super close with Carrie and never really called her on her shit so that is enough of a red flag for me to place him this far down.

We then have Miranda. I love Miranda, she is the one I identify with the most but she really treats Steve like crap from beginning to end. She kind of constantly jerked men that really cared about her around. She led Skipper on, she just would not let Steve into her life and once she did she would turn on them and change her mind. She was a decent friend and I am glad that she called Carrie out on her crap but I really couldn’t stand how she treated the men that loved her.

Next we have Aiden and Steve, also together. They were truly wonderful boyfriends to women who did not deserve them. Yes they both had their flaws but they never deserved how they were treated.

These last two were hard but after some deliberation I have placed Charlotte in second place. I think Charlotte is smart, elegant, and beautiful. The only reason she is second instead of first is because of her relatively antiquated ideas about relationships and womanhood. You could call it traditional, I think it's more like setting women back a few decades and some of the things she says are super ancient and that makes her occasionally insufferable.

And in the top spot, I think few would disagree with me, is Samantha. Not only an absolutely amazing friend but a strong and brilliant woman who isn’t afraid to be herself. Samantha proved time and time again that she was the best friend in the group, from giving Carrie a judgemental free place to confide her affair to forgiving Charlotte for slut shaming her. She was always so unapologetic about who she was and I loved her for that. She was open with her sexuality and encouraged her friends to be the same way.

I love (most) of the women in Sex and the City and most of their relationships. But if we are analyzing who these characters were as people, or even just how they are written as characters it is really easy to decide who is worth watching the show for.
