Why the Democratic Party Is Morally Corrupt Beyond Repair

A Opinion Piece Examining the Fall of the Democratic Party Over the Past Three Years

Debbie Wasserman Schultz, the former chair of the Democratic National Committee

Twas the year 1944, and a fellow named Henry Wallace was running for reelection as vice president. A peaceful man he was, a pacifist and progressive. Mr. Roosevelt prefered him, as did all the people. The establishment did not, however, and was not happy whatsoever. For Mr. Wallace was disrupting the system, and they decided to resist him. Nine percent was all he won, but war mongering Truman got ninety. Twas the year 1944 when Wallace got screwed over.

Wallace went on to found the Progressive Party, under which he ran for president in 1948. It too got screwed over, however, and was disbanded in 1955.

"Who cares what happened nearly a century ago," you exclaim, "Everything was so different back then. The Democratic Party of 1944 is the exact opposite of what it is today!"

I ask you, dear reader is that so? Does that story at the top ring any bells? In 2016, a very similar scenario occurred during the primary election. The Democratic National Commission conspired to rig the election against Bernard Sanders and in favor of Hillary Rodham Clinton. Now, there are calls for Bernie to begin his own party. Is it a mere coincidence that this situation has occurred numerous times within the party?

No, it isn’t. I’ll be blunt: the Democratic Party is controlled by big companies and does very little without first making sure that is okay with its corporate sponsors. While for some people this isn’t news, for a surprising majority, such a statement is absolutely outrageous.

That outrage is outrageous.

Democrats welcome corporate sponsors. That statement is not controversial. It is simply a fact, and anyone that disagrees is, frankly, naïve. The Democratic National Committee provides incentives for large corporate donors, in the form of “Family and Friends” packages. These include backstage concert passes, expensive hotel suites, and top-notch seating at sports events.

In February of this year, a resolution to ban donations from Super PACs was brought to a vote before the DNC. It was embarrassingly shot down. The main argument against it was that it would give Democrats a disadvantage in the midterm elections. This prominently displays that to Democrats, victory is more important than ethics. Again, this should not be a controversial statement. This is the exact argument of those that opposed the resolution.

“Alright,” you think, “Democrats need to get their funding from somewhere. It’s not like they will change their positions just to align with their donors.” Oh boy, how wrong you are. Countless incidents are in my mind, but I’m not going to get into them. OpenSecrets.org has really comprehensive information about political corruption; I highly recommend that everyone that reads this makes sure they know who is funding their local officials. These four cases were so ridiculously obvious that I laughed out loud when I read about them.

FACT: Twelve Democratic senators recently voted against a bill that would allow the importation of cheaper drugs from Canada. According to Opensecrets, each of them has received at least $50,000 in donations from big pharma, and 10 of them have received over $200,000. These senators include potential 2020 candidate Cory Booker, “rising star” Patty Murray, and Bob Menendez. Coincidence?

FACT: Speaking of Bob, In 2015, Senator Bob Menendez of New Jersey accepted gifts and donations from an eye doctor in trade for Menendez’s lobbying his positions in Congress. As I write, Bob is in court being prosecuted for corruption. This could, potentially, be the first time a sitting senator has been convicted as a felon in over a decade.

FACT: During a 2016 presidential debate, Hillary Clinton stated that she would crack down on a group of companies that used tax inversions. In this group, however, she did not mention Berkshire Hathaway, by far the largest tax inversion user, and also one of her largest donors. Coincidence?

FACT: This one is not so recent or prominent, but is so appallingly obvious that I had to include it. In 2014, when Jersey City’s ambulance contract was up for renewal, Mayor Steven Fulop awarded it to CarePoint Health. This controversial, as there were many companies that offered both cheaper and better services. Later on, during Fulop’s reelection campaign, Vivek Garipalli, the CEO of CarePoint Health, donated $1,000,000 to Fulop’s Super PAC through a ghost corporation. Coincidence?

Because of their reliance on special interest groups, Democrats have done outrageous things that, frankly, should be illegal. One of the most infuriating of these were the 2016 Democratic presidential primaries. The Democratic Party rigged the primaries. Once again, not a statement that is up for debate. In a recent court case, a judge found that the Democratic Party did indeed rig its primaries. Unfortunately, however, in that same court case, the judge also ruled that it was legal, as the primaries were an internal affair of a private organization.

Don’t trust a judge? Need to see evidence? Here it is.

The Washington Post, Politico, CNN, and The Wall Street Journal all checked in with the DNC to make sure that articles were okay to publish or to ask for guidance on how to form an article. This was an incredibly important tool in the DNC’s campaign to shape public opinion in their favor.

Donna Brazile, a (paid) CNN commentator, leaked questions from a primary debate hosted by CNN to the Clinton campaign. There was virtually no backlash from CNN. In fact, surprise, surprise, Brazile became the interim chair of the Democratic National Committee after the resignation of Debbie Wasserman Schultz.

Debbie Wasserman Schultz, on the other hand, spearheaded the interference of the DNC within primary activities. She was the one that blocked the Sanders campaign out of the imperative DNC databases based on a baseless and proofless claim that they took advantage of a malfunction and stole data from the Hillary camp. At one point, she hilariously misspoke and accidentally told the truth about the nature of Super Delegates. “Unpledged delegates exist really to make sure that party leaders and elected officials don't have to be in a position where they are running against grassroots activists.”

Democratic officials considered getting a media personality to ask Bernie as to his faith in the face of the Kentucky and West Virginia primaries. This was in an attempt to get Kentucky and West Virginia voters to not support him as they would believe that he is an atheist. In a recent WikiLeaks dump, it is revealed that Bradley Marshal, the former Chief Financial Officer of the DNC, suggested questioning Bernie’s faith. “My Southern Baptist peeps would draw a big difference between a Jew and an atheist.”

By the way, remember Debbie? In the same WikiLeaks dump, it is revealed that in an email, she called Bernie’s campaign chairman, Jeff Weaver, a “damn liar” and “particularly scummy.” Remember, as the DNC chairwoman, it was an imperative part of her job that she remain impartial in internal elections. Huh.

In addition to the primaries, in February, the DNC held an election for the empty chairmanship left open by the Departed Debbie Wasserman Schultz. A survey done by The Hill among DNC members found overwhelming support for Keith Ellison, a progressive Muslim Democrat from Minnesota, over Tom Perez, a moderate liberal and former Secretary of Labor under Obama. Somehow, however, it ended being so that Tom Perez won. I am not saying that this election was rigged, I am simply saying that I found this quite strange. In any case, however, this displays that the party base is significantly more neo-liberal than progressive, no matter how much they claim to include everyone.

Guess what? Corruption played a major role in this election as well. In March of 2017, Perez’s campaign committee sent $22,270 to former rival Jaime Harrison. In a completely unrelated event, Harrison endorsed Perez two days prior to the election.

The events I mentioned in this piece are only the ones that are somewhat related to the events of the 2016 election. However, there is significantly more to uncover in relation to what has happened since. In fact, that's an understatement. From the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (or the DCCC, as it is commonly known), threatening leftist candidates in order to get them to drop out of primaries, to the DNC establishing rules banning independent candidates from running for president (huh, I wonder who that's targeting), to Tom Perez (yes, the very same) campaigning for Andrew Cuomo, the incumbent governor of New York, who is currently facing an insurgent campaign challenge from progressive Cynthia Nixon, which is a direct and blatant violation of the bylaws of the Democratic National Committee.

Sadly, this is really just the tip of the iceberg. The conspiracy was so deep and well planned that we are still finding new and shocking information every week.

The Democratic Party is morally corrupt, and there is nothing we can do about it.

They have always been, they always are, and they always will be.

There is one thing you can do in the face of all of this: Leave. Become an Independent. Join the Green Party. I don’t care. As long as you do not sit there and continue to ignore all of this, I will be satisfied. Do something. Volunteer. Vote. Call. It is within your power to create change, so I ask of you: Utilize this power.
