Sunak: Snap Electoin?

If Other Tories Follow Lee Anderson.

Slogan Decrying Sunak.

There is a deep concern amongst Tories that others might follow Lee Anderson in defecting to Reform UK. Lee Anderson was booted out of the Tory Party by Sunak after words he had said about London Mayor Sadiq Khan. Accusing Khan of letting Muslims take over the UK capital.

Anderson defected to the far-right party Reform. The Leader of Reform UK Richard Tice held a press conference to welcome its first MP the former Tory Lee Anderson. Anderson has become Reform UK's first MP by default. Whether Anderson will retain his seat as a sitting Reform MP come to the general election remains to be seen. Anderson also signed a document to say that if he jumped ship to another party he would abide by a by-election. However, no such by-election is forthcoming which makes one wonder why Anderson signed such a document in the first place then. No one seems to have picked up upon that either in the government or opposition parties.

Senior Tories, even those sympathetic to Reform will not be jumping ship to join them. This coming from a top source given to Sky News within the Tory Party. They know that if they did it would allow Labour into power. This seems to show that even enemies within the Tory Party of Sunak will not be joining Reform. That Tories of whatever political view will come together and close ranks around Wishy-Washy-Rishi to prevent a loss at the ballot box. However, if polls are to be believed the Tories are facing a catastrophic wipeout when the general election is called.

Sunak was attending a meeting with the infamous backbench 1922 Committee. This committee if it receives enough letters calling for opponents to step forward and challenge the Prime Minister has the right then to trigger a leadership contest. A source close to this group said if 10 or more MPs do go to Reform Sunak would call a snap election. Also, if there were moves to oust Sunak by this group or other Tories, he would call a snap election. In other words, if his party doesn't back him, he would go to the country and ask for their backing. If that happened then again if the polls are to be believed it would be political suicide for Sunak.

Could and would Tories defect to Reform UK even though senior Tories doubt it? There may be Tories in parliament who see the Tories as flogging a dead horse. So, maybe some would be willing to chance their arm and join Reform. Some may see the Tories going down to an enormous spanking at the ballot box. So it could be they want to join a party like Reform that reflects their own views. Again whether they would lose their seats or remain as MPs having joined Reform remains to be seen.

Of course, most or all of the above is speculation. For now, Sunak seems to be the man the Tories will stick with to lead them into the general election (whenever Sunak is ready to call a general election). They know they have been through quite a time with different leaders and Prime Ministers. To risk dumping Sunak and having another leadership contest this far near a possible general election would be (to repeat the same words political suicide).

Right now, Sir Keir Starmer is riding the crest of a wave though he has faced criticisms over Gaza. Nevertheless, if a general election was called tomorrow it is most likely Starmer would be Prime Minister. However, no one can say what will happen in politics. The best we can do is make educated guesses based on polls.
