Today is the U.S. Army’s birthday! Founded in 1775, they are the largest and oldest U.S. Military branch. They are a powerful fighting force that defends and serve our nation by land, sea, and air. In 2021, the U.S. spent over 800 billion dollars to fund them, making it the highest military spending worldwide. There are more than 480,000 active members, with many more in the Reserves. There are more the 200 careers you can pursue if you join the U.S. Army. Here is a small list of tasks the U.S. Army will do to protect us during doomsday.

Defending The Land

The U.S. Army’s primary goal is to provide the ground forces that protect our American values. When the United States is under threat, it will be our first call to defense. Their primary mission is to provide the necessary force to support National Security and defense strategies. They recruit, organize, train, and equip soldiers to conduct prompt and sustained combat. Also, they provide the logistics and support needed to accomplish these missions. The U.S. Army maintains amphibious and ground units for contingency and combat operations on an ongoing basis.

Fighting Terrorists

The U.S. Army continues to provide military help to prevail in the War on Terror. They sustain our global commitment by forming coalitions with other countries. Through treaties and operations, they safeguard our friends, allies, and partners. They use multinational exercises to expand NATO to vulnerable countries for defense. Some of their operations are to cut off the flow of illegal drugs that use funds to participate in terrorist attacks.

Provides Stability

The primary goal behind everything they do is to bring stability to a region. The U.S. Army will work through a nation to defeat an insurgency to provide vital humanitarian aid to those who are suffering. They provide a ‘soft’ power to help them with economic development by addressing and repairing the root cause of the conflict. They help establish law and order, bringing harmony to a war-torn region. The U.S. Army uses its problem-solving skills to figure out how to best deploy its power and spread aid to those in need. When the deployment is ready to leave, they’ll leave the area much safer and more secure.

The Army Rangers

The Army Rangers are the best-trained soldiers in the world. They are a lethal, agile, and flexible force. Currently, there are approximately 2,200 active Army Rangers. The Army Rangers are a direct-section raid force. They are a light infantry unit that performs rapid missions and are often the leaders of them. Other jobs they do are:

  • Seizing key terrain
  • Destroying strategic facilities
  • Capturing/killing enemy forces to achieve victory

Green Berets

The Green Berets are looked at as military legends. Founded in 1952, they are the first Special Forces unit in the military. There are currently 15,000 active and reserved members. Known for their distinctive headgear, their primary job is to train and lead unconventional warfare. Other missions, or secondary missions, as they call them, are:

  • Hostage Rescue
  • Combat Search and Rescue
  • Manhunts

The National Guard

The National Guard is a community-based U.S. Army branch that focuses primarily on the state they are based on. They protect the U.S. Domestic interests in times of conflict. When a state has a crisis, they have to bring peace to a chaotic situation. Unlike the U.S. Army, the National Guard can serve as law enforcement when need be. Other duties they are assigned to are:

  • Provide food, water, and aid to areas destroyed by natural or man-made disasters
  • Help assist in overseas missions alongside the U.S. Army
  • Become federalized to maintain peace in a state
