Through the eyes of a child

A window to happiness

Through the eyes of a child, the whole world’s new,

Full of excitement, carefree and true,

With a curious mind and a heart filled with wonder,

A child explores from morning to slumber.

🎠

Children find magic in many new things,

It’s the simplest of pleasures that make their hearts sing,

They laugh and they play and they dance and they spin,

And when it’s all over, they do it again!

🎠

Through the eyes of a child, innocence reigns,

A world untouched by all of life’s pains,

Unfiltered and pure, their minds are still free,

To see all the things that we no longer see.

🎠

A magical world full of wonder and joy,

A playground for all little girls and boys,

Around every corner awaits a surprise,

Filled with excitement for a child’s fresh eyes.

🎠

And it’s not just the eyes, but the senses all five,

That make a kid happy just being alive,

New sights, smells and tastes, and touches and sounds,

Light up a world where excitement abounds.

🎠

But please keep in mind, as a kid acclimates,

To a splendor of senses so wonderfully great,

Extend love and patience, that’s part of our role,

To nurture and protect this precious new soul.

🎠

To a kid’s untrained palate, some foods may taste odd,

Like brussel sprouts, broccoli and lemon-baked cod,

But PB and J -- with the crusts cut away,

A kid can eat that day after day!

🎠

Soft, gentle skin makes a few things feel weird,

Such as Rover’s wet nose and dad’s stubbly beard,

And it might be alarming to hear a loud noise,

To the tender young ears of girls and boys.

🎠

The rustling of leaves and the smell of cut grass,

A bright-colored rainbow when a rainstorm has passed,

Life’s greatest pleasures, hidden in plain sight,

A world just bursting with constant delight!

🎠

Through the eyes of a child, the world is pure,

Full of innocence and trust, and a love that endures,

So take a brief moment to see as kids do,

With wonder and magic and a heart that is true.

🎠

You can experience childhood, too,

Whether you’re one or a hundred and two,

It’s all in perspective, it may take a while,

But with proper focus, you can see like a child.

🎠

Release all your worries, and let your heart see,

The world around you with childish glee,

Open your senses, your heart and mind, too,

And soon a new world will come into view.

🎠

The world is waiting for you to explore,

It’s bursting with colors unnoticed before,

Once you’ve discovered a kid’s point of view,

Get out and enjoy, there’s so much to do.

🎠

So open your eyes and open your heart,

To make this world better, we all play a part,

Live life with kindness and joyfulness too,

And life’s greatest treasures will soon come to you!

🎠

You are beautiful!

Hi Rob - I just showed this piece to Terrilynn - As an artist she sets up an easel next to her for our Gorgeous Grand Daughter, Olivia (she's 1 1/2) who we have a Zillion photos of, her slathering painting all over her instead of the canvas- Face-Painting? Hate to compare, they are so special at that age - Like a new puppy you can't keep your hands off nor want them to grow up - - Thanks for Painting this picture for us - You Speak good Kid - *I know I'm Soppy! Love this heartfelt poem RM. As I was reading I was thinking I wish we had more this magic and glee as adults, but then you addressed that towards the end. Excellent job. ☺️🙌🙌

Wonderful! Rhythmn and rhyme make this a easy and quick read but it's focused and expresses complex simplicity. This poem takes the reader on a joyful journey. I love the call to action at the end. Beautiful!

Delightful poem! I needed that today. Sometimes it seems like too far a reach, but definitely worth the effort to reclaim the heart of a child!

Brings to mind this quote: “Children are human beings to whom respect is due, superior to us by reason of their innocence and of the greater possibilities of their future.” Lovely poem!
