The Fool's Journey
From A to Z
A young man named Zilch wanders without a care
But encounters an old juggler who proposes a dare:
“Can you climb that nearby peak and look out to the sea?”
“Dunno, old man, that mountain looks too high for me…”
Emboldened with a laugh the old man does reply:
“Fret not, my friend, I will not let you die!
Grab this magic hat from my outstretched hand.
Heed not the dangers of the rising land!”
Intrigued but apprehensive, Zilch takes the funny cap,
Jingling with bells that flip and flop and flap,
Kaleidoscopic shimmering in the midday sun
Lights his heart with fire—yes, indeed he is the one!
Measuring the hat with his dazzled eyes,
Noticing a change in its shape and size,
Ordered to the border of Zilch’s massive head—
Perfect fit! No need to tailor it instead!
Questions abound in Zilch’s startled mind.
Raising a finger, he says: “I don’t mean to be unkind—”
Suddenly, without warning, the old man disappears!
Taking each fated step, Zilch wonders as he fears
Until, to his surprise, he beholds the rolling sea:
Venerable, beautiful, a blessed eternity!
Waiting for him there upon the snowy peak
X marks the spot—a treasure he did not seek!
Yearning and burning with curiosity,
Zilch starts to dig to find what it might be…

This was so wonderful! Loved your poem!
Nicely done!
Zilch, nada, nothing. I hope poor Zilch strikes it rich.
Smart move with the name of the character!
Lol, your caption for the cover photo! 🤣🤣🤣 I loved how you told a suspenseful and magical story with your Abecedarian and made it rhyme as well. Now I wonder what treasure did he find.
