The Color Purple
Haiku Book Review
Pain struck her throughout
Yet the color of peace would
Show her the way home.
"The Color Purple" by Alice Walker has faced book bans since it was first published in 1982. Yet it is a novel based on a woman finding her own self-worth while facing racism and domestic violence all through her life. The book won a Pulitzer Prize and was turned into an Academy Award nominated movie starring Whoopi Goldberg and Oprah Winfrey. The ending still makes me cry. I highly recommend both book and movie if you have not read or seen.

Great job C.H. A fine film. I wonder what the stage show is like.. I’ve never read the book but am surprised it has been banned. 🤨
This is excellent! I saw the musical a few years ago, which is just as good as the book. It saddens me that Spielberg decided not to use some of the most significant parts of the story in the movie.
Not to mention a Tony award winning Broadway show.
This is beautiful, Cindy! I never read the book but the original movie had me balling it! Well done!
Both the book and the movie were incredibly moving and brought me to tears many times. Wonderful haiku review for this one :)
Oh I definitely need to check out both the book and movie! Awesome Haiku-review!
Stunning work Cindy!
I read her letters this past year, and it is still amazing that it gets banned. Oh, and it did not win a single Academy Award. I remember (a new record). https://www.grunge.com/1146250/the-color-purple-lost-all-11-of-its-oscars-nominations-heres-who-won-them/
