In the Golden light of the summer sun
Laughter echoes across the fields
My sisters dance across the grass
Soaring kites float gracefully
In the sky above their heads
Their joy visible for miles
As they race back and forth
A competition of who can soar higher,
rainbow kites a stark contrast
against the pale blue sky,
And of who can run faster
Barefoot on the grass
They will learn too soon that
Nothing lasts forever
As one of the kites begins to float higher and higher
The string connecting it to the ground
Snapped
With one strong gust of wind
