Seizing The New Year

There is hope to be found inside worn leather boots and a battered suitcase.

Seizing The New Year

Searching for life inside his lifeless mirror

as he forces hope into a life of regret.

Pushed and pulled; poked and prodded;

he has no purpose and he is now life's puppet.

Gathering up strength to see

the broken dreams and shattered visions

in his perfectly kept mirror.

Silent screams torment his mind

as his reflection becomes clearer.

His worthless life he lives is over,

he sees nothing of value left.

His worn leather boots and battered suitcase

are set to become his past life's parting gift.

His choice is now consuming,

A vortex destined to reach the end.

He can breathe breath of new beginnings,

he no longer has to pretend.

The door that once locked him in,

has now locked him out.

Leaving a world in which he never belonged,

as his expired promises begin to fadeout.

He knows within his strength

there is hollow weakness and stubborn pride.

By walking away he has chosen to feed his soul

instead of rotting out his mind.

He rises as the sun sets

on a dull and hollow horizon.

Sick of being beaten down

and playing the fool that everyone relies on.

He is worthy of love

and is now destined for change.

Creating a new life to honour;

Building a new home to re-arrange.

Each step is a triumph

and he sees the blessing in every tear.

The bitterness in his life now tastes a whole lot sweeter,

as he creates limitless freedom by seizing the new year.

About the Creator

Jollyoddbod Poetry

Here I am, and here I'll stay;

Like the moon in the darkness that refuses to fade.

Clouds will cover, but cannot take from my reign;

Mark this as the moment that they realise, as they scoff with distain.

They fell asleep, I cannot be blamed.

    "Pushed and pulled; poked and prodded; he has no purpose and he is now life's puppet." "By walking away he has chosen to feed his soul instead of rotting out his mind." Bruh, great job. I resonated with the words. On to the new year!
