Poor nutrition leads to poor mental health

This truth we must embrace

For what we eat affects our mood

And how we feel in every place

When we skip breakfast and lunch

We may feel irritable and weak

Unable to focus or concentrate

Unable to think or speak

When we indulge in junk food

That's loaded with sugar and fats

Our energy levels plummet

And we feel like we're in a vat

Of molasses, moving slow

With no motivation to do

What needs to be done, it's a chore

To get out of bed or begin anew

Our brains crave vital nutrients

Like omega-3s and vitamins B

And when we don't give them what they need

They can't function properly

A lack of essential amino acids

Can make us feel depressed or blue

While too few antioxidants

Can damage brain cells, too

So if we want to have good mental health

And feel our very best

We need to choose our foods with care

And give our brains a rest

From junk food, sugar, and empty calories

And instead, have fruits, veggies, and lean meats

Our minds and bodies will thank us

And we'll enjoy a life that's complete
