Love and War, two worlds apart,

      But oftentimes they intertwine,

The battles fought with heavy heart,

As lovers hope and pray for a sign.

In the 1700s, war was rife,

As nations clashed and armies rose,

The sounds of cannon, musket, fife,

Were heard from England to Montrose.

But in the midst of all this strife,

Love still found a way to bloom,

As soldiers fought to save their life,

Their hearts were filled with hope and gloom.

For every man who marched to war,

Left behind a lover, wife or child,

Their hearts were heavy, spirits sore,

As they thought of them, both meek and mild.

The women left behind at home,

Had to fend for themselves each day,

They prayed for their men, oft alone,

And hoped that they would come back safe one day.

But as the battles raged on high,

Love still found a way to thrive,

As soldiers looked up to the sky,

And thought of those they left behind.

In letters sent across the sea,

They poured their hearts out on the page,

Telling tales of love and bravery,

As they fought in battle, day by day.

Their wives and sweethearts read with tears,

Each word that spoke of love so true,

They prayed to God to calm their fears,

And bring their men back safe and new.

And though the wars were long and hard,

      Love never faltered, never died,

As soldiers fought in fields and yards,

Their hearts were filled with love and pride.

For every time they raised their sword,

They thought of those they loved so dear,

And prayed that they would find reward,

In a world where love was always near.

So let us never forget the love,

That kept us strong in times of war,

For without it, we could not move,

Or find the strength to fight once more.
