Ask me in December

about the party in September.

The one you missed when life had other plans.

Talk to me some future day,

and I’ll regale that night in May,

when the choice to come was taken from your hands.

*

Let’s chat about that time in March,

when yet again, we were apart,

by circumstances out of our control.

I’ll thank you for that day in June,

when your welcome hug helped to ease the gloom,

of grief that overwhelmed my tattered soul.

*

Life surely flies by on a breeze.

Quicker, with every breath it seems.

On our best laid plans, so often there's a wrench.

There was a time, so far away,

we laughed together every day.

A friendship through the ages, we've entrenched.

*

Now the times together we do spend,

are few and far between, my friend.

Please know, I’ll always love you just the same.

Let's raise a glass in December,

and toast the warm days we remember,

when youth was ours and life was just a game.

Friendship

This is a wonderful tribute to friendship. I adore "your welcome hug helped to ease the gloom, of grief that overwhelmed my tattered soul." It's a perfect expression of how old, true friends can comfort us.

I could see this being a song. Do you know anyone who could stick a melody to it? 😁😁😁

So good! This captures those friendships that are hard to maintain when life gets in the way but roots form such a deep bond it still persists

ah, speak not to me of youth...that one flew away years ago. Now the aches and pains of being not so youthful fill our days. Yet we don;t give in, we enjoy every moment, carefree and young at heart. Lovely poetry.

  • Well-wrought! The winter months are, in the coldest parts of the world, the most amiable time for reflection and the celebration of a successful harvest!

Oh gosh this was lovely. I think it’s so true as there are some friendships that you can literally pick up years later and it’s like you were together an hour ago. Great stuff.

  • Luv it! 💞
