Lessons Learned
Paying Attention
A teacher who taught at a neighborhood school
Had dreamt up a project believing it’s cool
She gave to her children an interesting task
“If God recreated you, what would you ask”
While grading the essays the very same night
She’s laughing out loud at the tales they recite
One kid was a dragon, another a shark
One child was a horse giving rides in the park
A couple were athletes and some even taught
Some comic book heroes were mentioned a lot
The usual suspects were tickling her ears
When one she was reading reduced her to tears
A boy asks of God to become a TV
“My parents may then pay attention to me”
She read to her husband that student’s request
“He plays by himself and believes he’s a pest”
He hugs his wife gently and then starts to speak
By asking this question while drying her cheek
“Why not share with his parents the damage they’ve done”
She answers her husband, “This boy is our son”

Oh my sweet Lord, I did not see this one coming! A very good reminder, though.
Very moving and beautiful
Okay Lamar, I’ve been looking at some of your past works and your results in contests. Now THAT’S impressive my man.
Whoa!!! Nice reveal! Good one, Earl!
OH MY!!! You shocked me! This is such a good poem and it is so telling of today's life. Congrats on how you were able to put it in poetry, cover all the bases and rhyme!!
