Lay here with me,

just for a moment.

Shed the false skin that you use to protect yourself.

Let's take this time to be real with each other.

We owe ourselves that much.

Will our garden still be beautiful if nothing ever grows?

The ground beneath us is bare.

The petals of flowers, wilted and brittle surround you.

Even the grass withers away

Yet, you're beautiful.

Lay here with me.

Just stay a little while longer

Let the rain wash away the sins on our skin

Let it make us new

We can watch together as the soil soaks up the water.

You love the rain and I love you.

I can't help but find every splash of mud on your face adorable.

Lay here with me.

No, don't get up.

The sun is shining and you look so pretty here.

The thought of leaving you now makes me feel hollow.

Maybe this time our garden will grow.

Lay here with me. Don't ever leave.
