Hope is a dangerous thing.
A hopeful thought brings a moment of peace.
But should that thought linger it brings forth expectation.
From experience, expectations inevitably lead to disappointment.
Disappointment in turn causes anger or frustration.
Eventually, after being disappointed enough, all that remains is sadness and grief.
We get stuck on a cycle where we interpret actions or words of others as equal to our feelings and wants.
When this happens, hope returns. Almost like a childlike imagination of what could be possible.
It paints a picture in the mind of what we want most, to be loved and appreciated.
But the sad truth remains most people are not capable of loving and appreciating others in the same way that’s needed. Either by circumstance or decision.
Until we ourselves choose to break this cycle of hope… or the actions and words match the expectations, hurt inevitably resides.
It becomes a heavy weight sitting on one’s chest. Slowly destroying any childlike imagination that’s left.
