A Dinosaur Poem

Dark,

It was dark all around him,

Cramped,

He could barely move,

The walls trapping him wouldn't budge,

But something in him,

His pure instinct,

Was telling him to escape,

To live.

He had no memory of how he got here,

Why he was here,

Or even what was outside the walls,

But that didn’t matter,

He had to get out,

He had to be free,

He had to know what it was like to live.

So he bumped his head against the walls,

They didn’t give way,

So he kicked against the walls,

They didn’t give way,

He was tired,

But he didn’t want to give up,

So he kicked once more.

Crack!

Was that,

Could it be?

With his remaining strength,

He kicked once more.

Crack!

Light!

There was light!

There was a small hole in the wall,

The hole needed to be bigger for him to escape,

So after some rest,

He kicked once more.

The hole got bigger!

He hit his head against the wall,

Crack!

More light!

Excited,

Feeling that freedom was near,

He kicked one more time.

Crumble!

His prison walls fell to pieces around him,

Allowing him to see the outside world at last.

It was beautiful,

It was so green,

So blue,

So colorful,

So full of light!

Then he heard a noise,

Not a scary noise though,

He knows this noise,

It comforted him often as he grew within the walls,

He looked towards the noise,

And saw it came from a creature,

A beautiful, giant creature with a long neck and dark eyes.

A happy greeting,

Similar to the noise that came from the giant creature,

Came from his throat,

As he stretched out his own long neck towards his mother,

Because he was a baby Brontosaurus,

And he had just been born.
