What do you chase? When chasing dreams, goals, or needs, where's your head? You're focused on your objective. What's the problem with being focused on your objective?

Whenever you chase after something you're focused on something in front of you. Being hyper-focused on something is great, but it doesn't come without problems. There are always problems with anything, or so it seems.

The biggest problem with being hyper-focused on something or chasing after a goal or dream is that it is in the future. While you pursue things tomorrow, with your eyes on the horizon and your head in the clouds, what's going on around you gets missed.

This one a long time have I watched. All his life has he looked away… to the future, to the horizon. Never his mind on where he was. Hmm? What he was doing. Hmph. Adventure. Heh. Excitement. Heh. A Jedi craves not these things. You are reckless."

 - Yoda

We all have a dream. When we look back at our lives, whether we achieved our dreams or not, what have we missed? Was it worth it?

Imagine you focused on where you are and what you were doing instead of the future. Would you have spent more time with people you loved, some of whom are gone today? Might you have seen the world from a different perspective?

You could have seen the world for what it could be and started to work on being a part of the change instead of waiting for it to change. What else might have changed? Would you be with someone special, someone who might have been in front of you, but you passed them by as you focused on the future?

While you can't train to be a Jedi, because they aren't real, there are simple little things we see through the course of our lives that impart wisdom upon us, if we listen. Focusing on the here and now is one of those impactful pieces of wisdom.

Many people are dreamers, and that's where their ideas come from. They've made society a better place and scared society at the same time. Without dreamers, like Luke Skywalker, where would we be?

If your chasing a dream gets in the way of other areas of your life, is it worth it? When you look around, doesn't everybody know someone who let their goals and aspirations compromise their here and now? At times, we've all taken that risk.

Takeaway

Star Wars was ahead of its time. Even 50 years later, it's still one of the most beloved movies of all time. However, the Jedi were something that will forever be timeless.

The wisdom of the Jedi could be translated into today's life. We all might do better to focus on today. There are things going on around us, people that matter, and tomorrow isn't guaranteed. So why not make the absolute best of every day?

People who are "living their best life" are focused on today. They focus on doing as well as they can today, using each day's success to build something tomorrow. They're traveling, because they focus on today and putting money away to explore the world. They're planning their day, knocking it out of the park, and getting noticed. They're not staring at the horizon and hoping for tomorrow to be better.

By adhering to the simple wisdom of the Jedi, you can start to change your life right now, by making today the best it can be. That's the path to living your best life. Don't you think that's worth listening to the little green guy we all knew and loved?
