Sometimes we just get tired. We feel burned out and want to do nothing. We don’t even know what we’re doing and why we’re doing it. Our mind gets stuck, and we can’t get out of it. Going through such situations makes us unmotivated, exhausted, and lifeless. We want to be more productive and try to push ourselves to our highest limits. But in such conditions, the best decision for us is to do the opposite.

We need to slow down, try to be gentle with ourselves, and allow ourselves to heal.

Sometimes we feel this way while expecting so much from our life. And we haven't been able to show up the way we wanted. We try to push ourselves too hard. Taking so much on our plate, and at the end of the day burning ourselves out. Or maybe when we can’t fulfill the expectations of the people around us, we started questioning ourselves — questioning our potentials and capabilities.

Even the pandemic situation and the isolation from the outer world can be so disheartening.

Because we all had some expectations from the world or what our life should be like. All of these seem so frustrating. We lost our sense of control and didn’t know how to deal with it. We’re putting all our energy into productivity, achievement, external success, and goals.

In short, we’re working so much on our masculine energies and forget to surrender to our feminine energies.

We need to release our expectations, our feelings of control and accept ourselves as we are. You need to go inward, try to calm your mind, and love yourself. Sometimes it’s difficult to surrender to ourselves. But this is also easy at the same time. We need to do one thing — LET IT GO; NO ACTION ONLY THE INACTION.

So, what should we do when we feel like this?

“If you get tired, learn to rest, not to quit” — Banksy.

Just feel your existence

The most important thing you should do is feel your existence in this world. Keep all the pressures aside, and just exist. Let your body and mind rest. Stop putting any expectations on yourself. Whenever, feel unwell, all we’ve to do is do nothing, aka rest. Your body and the immune system are already fighting so hard for you. So try not to do anything. Just sit back and allow your body to take charge for a little while.

Give yourself love

Sometimes we forget to love ourselves and go for some external pleasures. We just stopped to give importance to our body, to our mind, and our whole existence. So, be gentle and kind to yourself, no matter what’s going on in your life.

Love is accepting, so accept yourself as you are.

Try to practice self-forgiveness and don’t be hard on yourself. We often feel low when we try to accomplish something, which is maybe wrong or difficult at that time. So, shifting your focus and changing your perspectives for a while is not always that bad. It’s OK to get out of your comfort zone.

So, instead of focusing on what’s going WRONG in your life, focus on what is still going RIGHT.

Spend some time in nature

Close to nature is the best therapy for mental illness and unhappiness. It heals you on a spiritual level. You’ll get the feeling of being a small part of this whole universe. You can revive your sense of peace and will understand the actual meaning of life. You don’t need to go on a trip. Just take a walk, go to a nearby park or maybe visit someplace that you like most. Just hit the GREEN.

Understanding that life happens in cycles

Our life happens in cycles like the repetition of the day or the seasons. So, don’t treat your life like stagnant water rather see it as a flowing river. It wouldn’t stay like this forever as it’s right now. You might know this phrase — “This too shall pass.”

Whatever you’re going through right now, keep in mind, it’ll pass eventually no matter what.

Your emotions, your feelings will change just like a season. If we only know light and not the dark, we wouldn’t understand the value of light and vice versa. Same with our emotions. A difficult phase of life can appreciate your future achievements.

Communicate with your near ones

If you’ve someone with whom you can share your thoughts and emotions, then you’re in luck. Psychologists say when you share your feelings and emotions with someone you trust, it reduces mental stress and anxiety. We all need a support system for our mental wellness. Whenever you feel low, just go and talk to them.

Finally, try to get yourself together

  • When you feel like you’re ready to take action — start it by doing little things. Don’t put too much pressure on yourself, and don’t set any goal for the whole day. Rather try to take baby steps and break down your tasks into the smallest chunks.
  • If you like to do exercise, start doing it. It will help to regain your strength and confidence. Don’t set a goal like “I will do this exercise for an hour every day.” Try to go for a walk for 10 minutes, install a workout app on your phone, try to do meditation if you want. In short, do as much as you feel you can.
  • Try to do things that make you happy. It can be anything — writing, reading, watching a movie, chatting with friends or, cooking your favorite dish. In my case, it’s writing — the biggest stress buster.
  • Try to find gratitude in every little thing. Every minute thing that is important for you — start to appreciate them. Start to write like “I am grateful to have a wonderful life;” “I am blessed to have a family,” “I am blessed to be alive.” When we start to find gratitude in simple things, life looks beautiful.

I hope these ideas will be helpful for you. People worry that if we don’t do anything, our life will get stuck. But that’s not true. Even If we do nothing for a while our life will be guided forward, as small or big, change is inevitable. So follow your intuition.

Try to listen to what your mind wants to tell you, not only the brain. If you don’t get any answer just get quiet. Maybe it is telling you, “Take a BREAK; then I will tell you what to do NEXT.”
