Sometimes we get so caught up in the latest health or wellness fads we forget about the essentials - or when we've just started our fitness journey we have no idea where to start.

This list is made up of some of the habits of the fittest people in the world today. Perhaps try adding a couple into your daily routine and see what difference it can make.

1. Explore the outside.

Going for walks, runs or playing sports outside is a fantastic way to improve not only your weight loss and your mental health, but being outside gives you a nice boost of vitamin D, 90 percent of which we get from the sun.

2. Plan ahead.

A habit of many fit people is that they plan ahead. From knowing when they will exercise what body parts or what they are going to do in the morning before work, after work or what they are going to eat, usually everything is planned and prepared.

3. Vent healthily.

Venting aggressions healthily is a really important way to maintain a healthy lifestyle, as stress is a poison for your mind and body. Doing team sports can raise your self-confidence and reduce the symptoms of depression and anxiety.

4. Yoga

Although this isn't the best form of exercise for burning off calories, it's one of the best for you physically and mentally. Research has shown that yoga surpasses many other categories of exercise when looking at the combination of physical and mental health.

5. Vegetables = Protein

Contrary to popular belief, too much high protein meats and diets can actually be very bad for you in the long run, whilst many fit and strong people will tell you that discovering the best vegetable-based proteins are much better for weight loss.

6. Hit the pool, or lake, or sea...

Taking advantage of the local pool (or if you're adventurous a lake or the sea) can help you burn some serious calories, it's lots of fun wherever you are because you know what you can expect, and it's been proven to reduce feelings of depression.

7. Running

Running is universal, it's something you can do pretty much anywhere with no equipment needed and the time you can spare. It burns off calories, helps your mental stability and gives you a huge burst of endorphins, which is why many people start and/or end their day with this exercise.

8. Hydrate

Not only does drinking water help flush out toxins that contribute towards you feeling tired and unfocused, but it's also a great way to keep yourself feeling fuller for longer, meaning you're going to be less likely to grab the closest convenient food to you.

9. Listen to music.

Studies have shown that listening to music is a legitimate way to lose fat faster, have you ever been to the gym and saw people wearing headphones? Playing their favourite playlists with revved up music has been proven to stop people from feeling as tired during and after exercise.

10. Patience

Patience is an integral part of becoming the fit person you know you can be. Nothing happens overnight, even with the great fitness plans and life changing classes. And though your journey might be a rollercoaster, persistence and patience is ultimately what will separate you from others.

One of the things many people who start this process do is forget to take into account that their journey is always going to be different to everyone else's, therefore you can't compare and you have to take your time.

In conclusion, whilst it's very difficult to juggle a career, a family and your own health at the same time (or even just one of them let's be honest), adopting some of these habits into your life can definitely help you keep sane.
