I'm a late bloomer!

I am one of those rare people my age who did not grow up playing with Legos or many toys at all. I can only remember having two or three toy items in my life.

No complaints, I spent my childhood outdoors and reading and this has given me a unique perspective amongst my peers.

When my son was two years old, my grandparents-in-law gave him a Lego Duplo set as a gift. I never thought of getting him Legos because I planned to be a mom whose children did not have any plastic toys.

Laugh

out

loud.

The Lego Duplo set quickly became one of his favorite things to play with and he spent hours quietly building and being extremely proud of his creations.

Later his great grandparents upgraded him to the Lego creative box.

Yes we take our Legos for walks and let them explore the neighborhood.

Legos are now a big part of our life.

A sweet gift from my kid.

My children have made some amazing creations over the years. Anything that I've made however wouldn't win any awards. In fact, when the kids request my companionship to build with them I usually suggest a tower building contest and stack my bricks as high as I can.

Spoiler Alert, they create amazing towers with steady bases and always win.

We haven't bought any new Legos in quite some time, I've promised that after the covid is eradicated, they can choose a new set to celebrate.

I was delighted when I read a press release for the Lego Botanical sets as my love for flowers and plants is akin to my kid's love for Legos. I am Thorn Everbloom!

My kids bed to differ on the 18+ rating.

My sister recently gave me a monetary gift that I was not to share, I decided to use it to purchase the Lego Bonsai tree, bouquet, and roses.

Alas, they were back-ordered but I didn't have to wait long for the bouquet set, however, as it arrived within a week.

Although I bought the Lego Set for myself, I enlisted the help of my children to build it because I knew building together would be a treat for them and I have a ways to go in following Lego instructions and correctly identifying the pieces.

On a low key afternoon, we began our build. The instructions include cute facts about various flowers. It also mentioned that some of the pieces were “plant-based” made from sugarcane.

I was unimpressed by this, Lego is responsible for a lot of plastic waste. They are virtually indestructible and their rate of producing new Legos is faster than the rate of new humans. Therefore these “green” efforts by Lego are a little too late.

Ok back to burying head in sand and building.

The first flowers we built were the Daisies, the instructions for these were relatively easy to follow and we made quick work of it. Two Daisies are included.

Next, we built the pink roses. My kids call this one flesh Legos as Owen Grady’s is the same color. Um not sure this is a good thing.

Adding the middle, white bud was a tad bit challenging for me. I don't love the triceratops wings as leaves on the roses.

A lone bright orange, California Poppy was next. This was the easiest flower to build in the set.

Two green bush pieces were next.

The bright and visually interesting, Snap Dragons were next. They were fun to build.

Claw elements are used in the leaves of the snapdragon.

Golden Lego crowns represent leaves on the lavender herbs. The lavender flowers are created with 117 Lego elements.

We made two more leaves that included a cool green surfboard as part of the elements.

Lastly, we built the Aster flower.

When I bought this set, I imagined putting on a floaty dress or “planting” them for a fun photoshoot.

A ton of pieces fell off when taking this shot.

Unfortunately, the flowers turned out to be top-heavy and unwieldy. They definitely are not built to be regularly handled.

None of the vases I had worked very well.

I think a vase should've been part of the build or at least an option.

This set was pretty easy to build, I've struggled building with kids before and there were no issues apart from getting the buds into the middle of roses.

My sister also gifted me that basket!

Overall I enjoyed building the Lego Flower Boquet 10280 set.

This build inspired one kid to learn about the Japanese art of flower arrangement, Ikebana, and another kid to build their original flowers from Legos we already owned!

It was a good choice for my first Lego set and would make a great gift for someone who likes Legos or Flowers and if they like both, you’ll win the gifting game with this set.

Shout out to my lovely sister for the gift!

Better late than never indeed (no pun intended). It is never too late. Wow. I am holding my breath, and I am surprised that no other writers or readers have commented on your article until now. Beautiful images and designs. I love it. Definitely worthy of a top story, and it is great that Vocal Media agrees with me <3 <3
