Do you want to grow? It’s a question we all ponder at some point. Growth comes from the change we make, whether it is learning something new or trying new behaviors. There are many ways to grow, but emotional growth is one of the easiest and most beneficial ways.

Emotional growth is essential in everyday life. Our happiness depends on our ability to understand and express emotion in a way that benefits ourselves and others.

There are many ways to grow emotionally. Emotional growth, more than anything, is a matter of understanding our own emotions and learning to control them. This takes time. You have probably experienced a lot of stress and trauma in your life and earning to overcome these issues requires work (and it’s worth it).

Always continue to better yourself because life isn’t supposed to stay still. Use these growth quotes for inspiration and guidance as you work on your emotional growth.

Inspiring Quotes to Help You Grow Emotionally

1. “Don’t let the negativity given to you by the world disempower you. Instead, give to yourself that which empowers you.” – Les Brown

It is important to realize that negativity will take place in the world. We cannot always avoid it, even though we try every day. It can sometimes be hard to ignore the negativity of the world, but it’s important that you don’t let the negativity disempower you.

The only thing that will empower you is yourself. You should recognize how powerful you are and let this strength fuel your actions.

2. “In a growth mindset, challenges are exciting rather than threatening. So rather than thinking, oh, I’m going to reveal my weaknesses, you say, wow, here’s a chance to grow.” – Carol S. Dweck

Challenges are opportunities to learn, improve, and grow. To thrive in a growth mindset, you need to view challenges as opportunities to expand your comfort zone, try new learning strategies, face unfamiliar problems, and push yourself to achieve more than you thought possible.

3. “if we’re growing, we’re always going to be out of our comfort zone.” – John Maxwell

What I’ve found is that if you are growing, you will be uncomfortable. Continuing to grow means that you are stepping out of your comfort zone and venturing into new territory. The more you do it, the more tolerant you become of it, and the less uncomfortable it becomes.

4. “You’ll never be able to grow if you’re afraid to lose people during the process. Sometimes past relationships don’t belong in new seasons.” – Trent Shelton

One of the hardest things to do in life is to let go. It’s important to know when relationships no longer belong in your life. Some people are meant for you during certain seasons of your life, but not forever.

Even people that seem irreplaceable can be let go. Growth often means saying goodbye to what used to make you happy and moving on to bigger and better things.

5. “Life’s challenges are not supposed to paralyze you. They’re supposed to help you discover who you are.” – Bernice Johnson Reagan

Sometimes an obstacle is just a challenge. It’s something that puts you on the right track and helps you grow. In fact, it should be welcomed with open arms because you know it will make you better in the end. Life’s obstacles are what help you learn more about yourself as you keep trying and look for a new plan.

6. “Stay afraid, but do it anyway. What’s important is the action. You don’t have to wait to be confident. Just do it, and eventually, the confidence will follow.” – Carrie Fisher

There is nothing wrong with fear, as long as you know what to do with it. Let it motivate you instead of inhibiting you from doing what needs to be done. Whatever “it” is — big or small.

Allow your fear to push you harder, encouraging you to work harder in digging for answers, and ultimately making you more prepared before doing what needs to be done. And when the results are positive, celebrate them just like you would if you had no fear at all!

7. “Personal growth is not a matter of learning new information but unlearning old limits.” – Alan Cohen

When we think of improvement, we think of getting better at something. We focus on acquiring skills, learning new information, practicing more, and brainstorming ideas. But personal growth requires changing the way we think.

Growth happens when we let go of old ways of thinking and adopt new ones. This is why it’s essential to unlearn old limits and replace them with new ones. When you let go of your limiting beliefs, you open the doors to new possibilities.

8. “Never be afraid to tread the path alone. Know which is your path and follow it wherever it may lead you; do not feel you have to follow in someone else’s footsteps.” – Eileen Caddy

It’s easy to follow the herd and go with the flow. By watching what others do, you know you won’t make a wrong decision or accidentally blunder into any trouble. To some extent, this is good. However, there’s always a danger with this approach – you can get stuck in one place while all your peers are moving on ahead of you.

If you choose instead to walk your own path, you may find that you are going it alone temporarily. But to me, there’s nothing more exciting than exploring new territory and seeing where you end up versus sticking with the tried-and-tested rules and following others just because you don’t want to be alone!

9. “Life does not always give you what you want, but if you look closely you will see that it gives you what you need for your growth.” – Leon Brown

Life is like a river. Sometimes, we’re floating with the current in pleasant waters, sometimes we’re defying the current and fighting to get to where we want to be, and sometimes we’re struggling to swim against the river’s flow.

There are moments when you will need to fight for what you want and you may be sorely disappointed when you don’t get it. But in the end, life gives us what we really need: growth.

10. “The tiny seed knew that in order to grow, it needed to be dropped in dirt, covered with darkness, and struggle to reach the light.” – Unknown

There will be times in your life when things will seem like they are falling apart. You will have to face hardship, and you may even lose hope. But just like a seed that transforms into a strong plant, you can grow from these experiences and defy the odds against you.

11. “Absorb what is useful, discard what is not, add what is uniquely your own.” – Bruce Lee

For the best results in growth and development, expose yourself to as many different sources of information as possible. Take in the things that work for you, release the things that don’t benefit you, and add anything you want. By following this advice, you will live a life that is worthwhile, individualized, and true to wherever you are in your development process.

12.“The key to growth is the introduction of higher dimensions of consciousness into our awareness.” – Lao Tzu

Emotional growth is the key to your own development. It's characterized by curiosity and the motivation to explore emotional depths in our lives. Often we'd prefer not to deal with feelings because they destabilize us, unlike logic, which always has an answer.

Somewhere, somehow, it hits us that we have to start exploring inwards if we want to connect with our true emotions and learn more about ourselves.

13. “Life isn’t about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself.” – George Bernard Shaw

I know it’s a cheesy quote, but it’s something Jeff George Bernard Shaw says. It’s something that really resonates with me because it makes you stop and think about what matters in your life. In short, the quote isn’t just about finding yourself but creating yourself.

14. “Real growth is when you start checking and correcting yourself.” – Unknown

We all make mistakes. It’s a part of learning. If you don’t check your assumptions and correct yourself whenever you can, you won’t learn from the experiences, which means you can’t grow. That kind of growth is something you can only achieve through struggle because only by feeling frustrated about your major screw-ups you can move to a more positive emotional state.

15. “Growth can be painful, change can be painful, but nothing is as painful as staying stuck somewhere you don’t belong.” – Unknown

One of the most difficult things for a human is to change. It can be painful. It can make us feel uncertain, nervous, uncomfortable even. We all tend to resist it, and can easily rationalize staying in our comfort zone by saying “if it ain’t broken, don’t fix it”.

However, once you have dealt with your feelings and emotions healthily, you will feel as if a burden has been lifted off of you. Just remember, there is nothing more powerful than when you feel happy about yourself and the people that surround you in your life.
