Season 4

So far the show is increasing in quality as we move through the seasons but the structural problems are most definitely still there. My biggest problem right now is that both season 2 and 3 have had really deep, emotional multi episode arcs that feel like they should end the season…but then they don’t and there are still several more episodes. The season finale then tries to shoehorn in something big at the end but it kind of robs the previous emotional arc of its impact. This problem roots in the fact that this show overuses multi-episode arcs. Like these writers have never heard of self contained stories. I am hoping that at some point in this series that horrible storytelling device goes away. We will see, at the end of season 3 Abby came back, but with a fiance. May graduates and starts working at the dispatch center and Maddy and Chim are having a baby!

I really love Bobby and Athena, they are super cute.

My Buck is in therapy! That’s so good the poor boy has been through a lot and he definitely needs to talk it out. That’s also gonna be really helpful when he realizes that he’s GAY!

This show seems to place a huge stigma around therapy, now I know that some people still have a certain viewpoint about psychology and mental health but for the most part the world has done a lot to get rid of that stigma.

The way that it is so easy to tell when a show wants to introduce a spin off. LAFD getting called to texas to help with a fire? Mkay, very convenient.

Now they are building up this huge Buckley family secret and I swear to god if it is something like he’s adopted I am going to scream. Because they are making it a big deal and apparently really serious. My sweet baby Buck is a DONOR BABY. Okay properly built up big secret. Holy shit. That would explain the bad relationship with the parents (don’t get me wrong they are still terrible people and parents but at least it makes sense now).

Eddie tries to tell Christopher he’s dating and it does not go well. Poor Christopher. So you may have heard me mention this before but if your spouse dies and your kids are still young (young being anything pre-high school) they now dictate your dating life. They should be your first thought and if they don’t like it you don’t do it. Period. End of discussion. There are no other sides to this. Christopher runs away and he runs to Buck. Which is just about the cutest thing in the whole world. Buck and Christopher’s relationship is the sweetest thing in the whole world. If Eddie told Christopher he was dating Buck maybe there wouldn’t have been a problem…just saying.

Maddy being very very pregnant is hilarious. Chim is adorable and he’s going to be such a good dad.

Hen is killing it in medical school, her mom moving in seems to have helped the situation. Giving back Nia was a really rough situation, I was crying a lot. I love that Hen and Karen decided to let their son in on the decision. And I love that they decided as a family to keep fostering.

Carla is back and without realizing it she plants seeds of doubt into Eddie’s mind about his new relationship. She just wanted to make sure that it's something he wants and not what Christopher wants.

Someone shot my Eddie. Who the fuck is shooting at fire fighters? They are categorically some of the best people on the planet. Their whole existence is helping people. My poor little Christopher having to be the one to console Buck because he can’t pull it together is so sad…and also GAY.

“How does it feel to now work a job where people are shooting at you?” “I don’t like my job without Eddie” GAY.

YES! Athena doesn’t fuck around she dropped that guy so fast. We love her.

After you accept that the plotlines and story structure are going to be insane and somewhat incomplete. With absolutely no consistency then the show gets a lot more enjoyable to watch. Angela Bassett continues to be the best part of the series and the actor for Buck continues to be absolutely adorable but just the worst actor possible. Side note I think my Buck is super depressed. We are leaving this season with Maddy engulfed in postpartum depression, and Chim being the best partner ever. AND EDDIE LEAVES CHRISTOPHER TO BUCK THERE IS NO WORLD WHERE THAT IS STRAIGHT. And Albert becomes a firefighter.
