The Sun is out! With warmer weather here, it is essential to protect your skin. Although exposure to sunlight is beneficial; it can also be harmful. So, I’m going to provide you with all the intel you need to know to keep your skin protected while still having fun in the sunshine.

Sun is Out – Protect Your Skin

Since skin cancer is one of the leading cancers in the United States; it is essential to protect your skin. Whether you are lying on the beach, by a swimming pool, or using tanning beds and sunlamps; it is important you follow my suggestions that will help protect you from the dangerous UVA/UVB rays.

Because May is dedicated to skin cancer awareness; it is important for you to protect your health. To learn more about this deadly disease; visit my Melanoma Monday – May 6th post.

Protect Your Skin

Whenever you are outdoors, it is important to use a good sunscreen with an SPF 30+ or higher. Also, keep your skin covered with protective clothing.

Did you know that sunscreen lotions have to pass certain FDA tests before they are sold? Well, if you weren’t aware of this; make sure the lotion you buy has an SPF 30+ to protect you and your family from skin cancer, sunburns, and premature aging. To learn more about melanoma; visit my May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month post.

When you are in the sun; it is important to be aware that the UVA/UVB rays are the strongest between 10:00 a.m. – 2: p.m. So, if you are going to the beach, the pool, or an outdoor event; make sure you take precautions.

Of course, the best way to do this is to apply a good SPF 30+ and reapply it every 90 minutes if you have been in the water or are sweating.
