The tour guide enthuses about points of interest: the playpark and big wheel; the housing blocks; the sports complex. All once state of the art. A testament to the soviet machine. Now abandoned to nature.

Click ... Click ... Click

A tree now grows through my childhood home. I wipe away a tear.

Click. Click. Click.

The tour guide ushers us back to the bus. Readings are too high, she says.

For the second time in my life I'm driven away from home by the shadow of Chernobyl.

  • From the tourist standpoint, all too familiar (& most of my pictures don't turn out well anyway). From a more historical, sociological, psychological perspective, let me still say that both the event itself & the aftermath as witnessed in the movie "Chernobyl" remain sobering to me
