Day of the Dozen
Going Out in Style
The crowd at the base of the steep slope had grown to epic proportions. In the bright afternoon sun, the glare from the smooth, hard-packed surface was blinding.
Atop the massive sledding hill, 12 attractive teenage girls in matching ski suits performed a final makeup check and linked their train of snow discs together. Two dads held the shoulders of the rider at the rear.
The self-dubbed, “Delectable Dozen” were confident this would be the day the record for the longest “train jump” on this slope fell. In the crowd below, several modestly-attired girls secretly hoped for the fall of the “Dirty Debutantes.” High school can be brutal.
An injured young male snowboarder limped up as fast as he could manage, shouting, “Stop them! The snow is too fast!”
Panicked parents pushed through the throng, shouting, arms waving frantically. The girls, mistaking this for a show of support, gleefully shouted, “GO!” The dads pushed.
Over the edge came the Dozen, perfectly aligned with the berm that would launch them. Five seconds into their run, the reality of their situation hit home. Unfortunately, they were airborne just one second later.
Screaming in perfect pitch, the train climbed skyward, continuing upward and outward far too long. Arcing downward at last, it disappeard from sight as it passed over the treeline at the end of the braking area. The screams faded into silence.
It's said that hikers still hear those screams in the woods below.

Hahaha! I feel like I shouldn't be laughing at this, but I seriously lol-ed! This is a great micro, Dana! Still giggling!
High school can indeed be brutal lol Love this story, Dana! I wasn't expecting the last line, but it was simply brilliant, very much a small-town urban legend feel.
Hahahahahahahahahhahaha this was so hilarious to me! Yea I don't know what's wrong with me! Loved your story!
Those poor girls
Echoes do tend to linger. And pride doth goeth before a fall, sometimes later than anyone expected.
Launched into eternity on a chain of saucers, what else could work better?
Fabulously pitch perfect!!! LOL Love it💕♥️♥️
Oh you took a story of bright eyed hope and fun to a ride from hell. This was so well played out, the snow boarder was a perfect touch to add tension.
Bloody hell, brutal is right!
Oh dear lord. This was so visual. Was it wrong that the visual was quite funny?
Oh damn. What a wild ride. Well done, my friend.
Oh snap!! That's freaking hilarious and the twist was great! Been missing your sense of humor :) Love, Sissy
At least their pitch was perfect...? nah, bad joke, great tale!
Whoa! That was amazing! It reminded me of my sledding days back home… but we never hit a jump like that. I like how it turned into a tale… like a campfire ghost story. Excellently done!
Oh no!!! Poor girls! So masterfully told story!
Fascinating story
