It's a Saturday afternoon. The sun is shining and she has decided to visit her parents. These days, she seems to value more time with them and doesn't rush her time with them either.

One thing she has noticed is that ever since she got into a romantic relationship, her conversations over the granite kitchen island with her mother have become deeper and deeper, especially when it comes to sharing insight about their relationships. She's in her late 20's. Her mother is reaching her 26th or 27th wedding anniversary.

She told her mother a lot of things in confidence (she is careful not to reveal too much of their conversation here, but this is just a mild reflection).

She unloaded everything about her partner and how she feels. She doesn't know what to do at times. It is teaching her that this is not what she wants? Or perhaps clarifying what she does? It's interesting how easy it was to confess to her mother about certain worries and thoughts. Most of her friends are single, and can't offer relationship advice, so she seeks comfort and space from her mother. Her mother listened while stirring some food on the stove.

She worries that she is not the one for him, nor is he the one for her. He yearns for something she doesn't think she can give him, which is a taste of his homeland and a family life. They come from different places. She was born in Jamaica, he was born in Italy. I mean, it is an interesting mix for sure, but their cultures couldn’t be more different.

....

She saw a boy on instagram - let's call him “S”. Her old high school friend. He got married to an African girl. He is African too, and she wondered if it was easier. Easier to get together with someone who is from the same culture and background, as you. Families would probably be more comfortable meeting each other and hanging out with each other.

In the videos of the newlyweds, he seemed happy. She seemed happy. The union of two families coming together. As an observation, her family and her partner's family haven’t met at all. Only in bits and pieces, but not a full-on setup, under one roof.

.....

She feels spilt at times. She stays quiet amongst his family, and when they switch to Italian, and talk full-on and make jokes, her heart aches a little. Her skin is brown. She feels like an outcast. They know nothing about her family.

Kids came up too at some time. And she said hell no.

She has another guy in mind - that she possibly likes. She hasn't confessed that yet to her mother. But it's coming. She can picture so clearly meeting his family, and him meeting her family.

She was watching a movie by the name of "Dil Tu Pagel Hai" - which is her beloved favourite romantic movie. In it one of the characters states and I'm paraphrasing here...."God has created us in pairs, but he left it up to us to find the person we are destined to be with". Only time will tell, and patience.
