Spring is a great time to get your family off their devices and outside for some fresh air. In fact, your family may be eager to get outside after being inside all winter. However, what should you do once everyone is outside? To help you plan a great day, here are five fun spring activities to enjoy with your family.

1. Go On A Picnic

There is nothing like planning a picnic with your family in the backyard or at a local park. You may even decide to host this picnic at a nearby beach. It gives everyone a change of scenery from eating inside the house while encouraging your family to spend time together.

Keep it simple with sandwiches and snacks, or rent a pavilion with a grill for hot dogs and hamburgers. Of course, do not forget to bring outdoor toys, such as a soccer ball or hula-hoops. You can even bring a bigger game, such as a bean bag toss or ring toss, for everyone to play.

2. Take A Nature Walk

A nature walk is perfect for getting outside, spending time together, and getting a dose of education. The best part is, nature walks can be planned in various locations, from your local park to a state park with hiking trails. If you have younger children, such as toddlers or preschoolers, you can always plan your nature walk around the backyard or neighborhood. The key is to get everyone outside for a while.

During your nature walk, encourage younger children to identify certain aspects of nature, and ask your older children to snap pictures along the way. If you want to avoid mobile devices while outdoors, you can always pull out your trusty digital camera. This makes it easier to get everyone involved with the nature walk.

3. Release Energy At The Playground

Your child may have a lot of energy to release after being inside the house, daycare, or school all day. Why not plan an afternoon at a nearby playground? Children love to release energy on slides, swings, and climbing equipment.

In fact, bring your tween or teen and watch how quickly they join in on the fun. You may even find yourself swinging or climbing with your little one.

If you have a playground set in the backyard? Even better. While the park is perfect for a change of scenery, playing at home can be convenient if you’re planning this play session after school or daycare. Meanwhile, the park is a great idea for your family members’ days off school and work.

4. Participate In Friendly Sports Games

If your family loves sports, you can always plan an afternoon of touch football, t-ball, basketball, or soccer. Why not use the playground to come up with a family-friendly relay race? The possibilities are endless when choosing sports games for your family. Of course, you want to ensure it’s a game everyone enjoys.

Of course, your family may not play sports often, and that’s okay. The whole idea is to enjoy the weather, play together, and have fun. In fact, you can use this time to encourage your family to get outside while teaching your children about working as a team and being a good sport.

5. Start and Maintain A Garden

Are you looking for a spring activity your family can enjoy at home? You can always start a garden in your backyard. Let your family members choose flowers, fruit, or vegetables to grow, and of course, ask them to help you with the process.

If you don’t have a lot of room in your backyard for a garden, you can always start a window or indoor garden. Herbs and smaller flowers are great alternatives to a bigger garden in the backyard. They’re also great starters for family members with no experience in gardening.

Once you introduce your family to gardening this spring, you can look into year-round gardening ideas.

As you can see, all five of these ideas involve getting your family outside, except for an indoor or a box garden. Regardless, getting outside, exploring nature, and starting a garden are perfect ideas for enjoying spring with your family.
